More specifically, Georgia versus Georgia Southern in 2004 -- VanGorder's last year as DC in Athens, Sewak in his next-to-last season as HC in Statesboro:

The (then FCS-level) Eagles hung well with a UGA team that finished Top 10 that year. Three and a half minutes left, Southern was only down 28-41, and no SEC team ran for as many yards against Georgia that season as did the Eagles.

Admittedly, VanGorder has far more experience now, and Johnson rather than Sewak will be calling plays Saturday, but at least this is an interesting bit of a look at an early VanGorder encounter with the double-slot, option-based spread attack we all know and love.

BVG had to put the No. 1 defense back in. IIRC, the Dogs got a punt return in the third quarter that kinda broke it open. Then Southern started coming back and BVG had to put the starters back in.

I almost started crying seeing Teddy Craft on the field in that clip. Rest his soul.
