So are you suggesting Norvell isn’t a competent coach? I mean FSU is one of the top 5 most talented teams in the ACC and might finish dead last.Mike Norvell’s struggles at FSU this year aren’t due to Taggart’s former offensive style. Pro-style offenses aren’t blamed when new coaches struggle.
Is Paul Chryst an incompetent coach? He lost to FCS Youngstown State his first game as Pitt’s coach, lost another FCS game in year 3, and finished his career there under .500. But you guys rave about how Wisconsin produces talent with lesser recruiting based on their coaching. So is he incompetent? Or a good coach?
Is Pat Fitzgerald a bad coach? He lost to FCS New Hampshire by 17 points his first year at Northwestern.
Is Scott Frost a bad coach? He lost to Troy his first year at former powerhouse Nebraska and hasn’t put up a winning record yet.
Is David Cutcliffe incompetent? It took him 6 years to put up a winning record at Duke.
How do you know this is the reality. Tech is the only team to transition out of a wishbone/flexbone based 3O into a more pro-style offense in the last 20 years. There hasn’t even been a true wishbone 3O team in major college football outside of Tech since the turn of the century. The actual reality is that it just takes time for a coaching change to produce results in the vast majority of cases. Very few coaches can come in and have a team firing on all cylinders in year 1, and most of them struggle is years 2 and 3 as well. Year 3 is when you can start seeing the trajectory of the program, and year 4 is when you can tell whether the guy is right for the job or not. You said pro-style offense aren’t blamed when other coaches take over new positions, so why do you ignore the fact that numerous head coaches who are considered good at their jobs struggled to turn around teams without overhauling their base of their fundamentals?Reality is that a competent coach can transition from the 3O and many other programs would trade our 10 years under the 3O for their 10 years running whatever else.
Obviously a contingent on this board is willing to overlook history not only at Georgia Tech, but around the country, ignore trends, downplay a transition, and act like triple option football is the only way Georgia Tech will win games.Obviously, a contingent on this board have chosen to lean into a lazy narrative to protect the Waffle House guy.
