I think some people over react to devines weight and player weight in general. Yes, devine probably needs to lose 30-40 pounds so that he can be healthier and have more stamina, but there have been many players his size in the NFL. If he can play for sustained drives then I don't care if he's 370 or if he's 320. And to rush the passer it doesn't matter how much you weigh. If you can get after the QB who cares. Look at Bruce Irvin.

Nope, I'm extremely confident in our OLs ability to control a game. There was a recent article in the AJC where Sewak talks about using a 7-8 man rotation on the line, and I feel our guys in that rotation will be very capable.

I didn't mean concern necessarily this season with them filling in one at a time here and there, i mean in the upcoming years when our current starters are gone? Will these guys fill out or are we looking at a lighter unit as a whole in the near future? I'm a big fan of what our big OL has accomplished.

If you look at each recruiting class going back to 2008 they all come in much lighter than what they eventually end up at.

Just look at the frames of the guys we've signed in the last few years. Not many are below 6-4, if any at all, and all have the ability to add weight onto their frames. We like to go after the more athletic OL guys, so in high school you'd see these guys a lot lankier than when they expect to contribute. Get a couple years in the weight room with our coaches and they should be ready to road grade a couple years down the line.

My son as a senior in HS was 270-275Lb at 6'4 and change. When he camped there wasn't an O line coach that looked at him and didn't know looking at his frame that he could carry another 30-35 lbs with no problem at all! A good S&C coach/program combined with the natural maturing process make most there young men a whole lot bigger in 1-1 1/2 years!

Not worried about the weights of freshmen at all. Ones that stand out at first glance are

Whitehead at 217 may mean has has to be a specialist instead of an every down guy. Speed would help him get to teh QB, weight could be a liability against the run.
Divine at 366 means he will probably still not be a high number of snaps guy.

Gray at 212 as a freshman DB is nice to see when we have to go up against big WRs in the coming years.
Davis at 230 is nice.
Marshall at 210 looks to be near ready at that standpoint, and if he can add 10-15 lbs of muscle without dropping speed could be a terror for us in his time here.
Lands-Davis/Quaide at 220 both looks solid.
Alexander at 5-10 230 is also very interesting.

He played end for University of Miami, which is where he made a modest run at the Heisman. No one could block him in college which is what we are talking about with regard to Whitehead.
Thanks for the info. For some reason It never crossed my mind about him playing in collage. In my defense I was born in '78. I always welcome historical info of all types:)

The game has changed significantly in the last 50 years especially when it comes to sizes of the lines.

The minute Vic Alexander learns to use his God given talents and the techniques Tech coaches are providing him, he may be nearly impossible to block. He's the type of player Tech rarely gets. THWG!!

2 guys I'm interested in, that don't get many mentions...Brant Mitchell and Terrell Lewis. Mitchell looks like a darn good prospect. Lewis looked pretty good going sideline to sideline in the spring game. We look to be stacked at LB in the next couple years.

PJ davis up around 230, and Alexander already to around 230. That is STOUT for guys their height.

Other interesting weights:
Jordan up to 215
Erin Joe at 307 (that's trim for him)
Harland Howell is 217!
Trent Sellers 242 (was worried he would come in closer to 225)
AJ Gray at 212. Any chance he grows into a LB?
Sellers is a rapidly growing kid. Based on this, I think he'll keep on and be playing DT in no time.

A compelling argument but not a conclusive one. Yes, the game has changed and, yes, players are generally bigger. But that does not mean the coaches who say, "Whitehead is going to get to quarterbacks," are wrong.
