UNC angst and what they have in common with us.

In this YouTube clip, a bunch of UNC guys are discussing what is not going well at Carolina.

It's relevant to us because they get into losing Phil Longo (OC), how coaches at other schools (such as Clemson) run practices, toughness on Offense and Defense, and a host of other topics.

"Oklahoma on the weekends, and Harvard during the week." Sound familiar?

This won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I think there are important points being made that some of you will appreciate as we consider our own situation.

Harvard!?.....lol. Can't recall the last time Harvard was put on a 12 months probation for academic fraud and almost lost their accreditation. UNC = Harvard...pure comedy right there.

Unc is actually a very good school. They’re no Tech, but they have a GREAT journalism school (ever heard of Stuart Scott, he’s a Unc alum) as well as a good medicine school.

This is why people hate UNC fans. They seriously want it all (and think they deserve it). They already have a blue blood basketball program, elite P5 academics, a beautiful campus, a top 5 athletic department overall, etc. And yet they still complain and think they deserve a great football program too. When their rival NC State is a few miles down the road and has none of that. No, UNC fans, you don’t get to have it all. You already have more than just about everyone else.

James Tayler said it best.

unc currently shows 15 in the ‘23 transfer portal, including four 4⭐️ and two 5⭐️. Add Josh Downs and seniors, it appears to be a large roster churn for a team that just played in the ACC championship.

Now their OC reportedly has been poached to Wisconsin, would Maye fiow?

For such well established program,

Plus Mack is 71. How much longer will he coach? He looks to be in pretty good shape but could definitely lose that belly like a lot of us. At some point his age will be used against him in recruiting. Probably already is.

I'm aware of UNC ratings. Still doesn't negate the fact they created a field of study specifically for athletes with a shocking amount of credit hours that had no classes and had no test. Most people don't realize actually how close they were to losing their accreditation. Which, in Academia, pretty big deal. People like to sweep that inconvenient truth under the carpet, still happened. Sorry, less than zero respect for the Tar Heels.

Just like we take credit for ruining Jimbo and FSU in 2015, many us beating them this year will ruin Mack and UNC for a few years.

Short clip discussing the fact that Clemson PLAYS hard because it PRACTICES hard. Dude's bemoaning the fact that Carolina doesn't do that.

So, does this complaint sound familiar to Tech fans?

So, which is worse?

Having your first team O going hard and fast against your first team D and risking some injuries?

Or not going hard and fast in practice and then playing soft and/or slow in a real game?

The talking heads in Carolina Blue seem to be saying (from their direct observation, mind you) that Clemson practices hard and fast.

Well, we spent the last 3 years playing 2 hand touch in our spring games, and not going full speed in practice, and we went 14-34 over the last 4 seasons.

UGA on the other hand, has full contact spring games, something they call “Bloody Tuesday” in practice weeks, and are the defending national champs, 13-0, and 47-5 in the last 4 seasons. Granted, UGA has way more depth if someone were to get hurt in practice. They can afford to lose a projected starter or 2 much more than us or just about anybody else in the country for that matter. But they don’t go easy just for the sake of saving guys.

There is a balance between not getting your guys hurt in practice, and actually getting them 100% game speed reps. But if you’re going to be a tough team who’s going to be strong and physical, you gotta be physical in practice. That’s not something you can just flip the switch on for 12-15 days a year. It’s gotta be something to instill into the culture of your team. Doing it for the 100+ practice days you get a seasons is how you do that

Back in the day the 1's used to go against the other 1's one day a week and do it full speed in pads. Does that still happen?
