UNCW is not a pushover. They beat NC State both times they played and they beat Wake as well as taking a weekend series against a pretty good Northeastern team. Two of their three weekend starters have ERA's under 4 and the one that isn't is 6'8" and has an ERA around 5. We have an advantage at the plate as their team batting avg is only .281. There is a reason they are a 2 seed. We will have to play and pitch well to beat them.
Absolutely - I'm not taking them lightly, just suggesting we don't have a lot of data points of their weekend guys vs tournament teams. They've earned their seeding, and I hope whoever gets game 1 for us is dialed in.

Whenever we hosted, I always wondered why we didn't take the first game. I think it's smart.
Revenue. Since most of our Regional Series starting on Friday, GT wanted to maximize revenue by have the 7PM game getting people who were working that day to boost attendance. Obviously if the series started on Saturday, it wouldn't make any difference.

Some talk about start times. I don't believe the host school decides. Just my assumption... quick scan of regionals... very close (if not exactly) half have the same schedule as Athens with #1 v #4 leading off.

TV is dictating not loading up all #1s at same time.

Again.. my reading tea leaves. No proof.

"For the first day of competition only, the host institution for a regional competition may request the playing order for the two games that day. However, final determination of game order will be determined by ESPN in consultation with the NCAA."
