Think this will make the acc fall apart? If so you guys think GT would be able to join another power conference, or will we get left behind? Part of me hopes this leads to us joining the b1g lmao

The ACC is bound by contract. We cannot just walk away. If anything this makes it harder. Why would any conference want to import this pile of dung?
I believe if 10/17 members vote yay then the conference can be dissolved. Despite how poor the ACC teams have played a lot of them still get good viewership, I can't see the top 5-10 teams (in terms of viewership) being left behind. (GT is one of these!)

GT had 3rd highest viewership in the ACC this season which makes me hopeful.

But man the way the end this season has played out really has me down right now. Especially with the new of coaches leaving.

Who’s gonna want programs from the chaotic ACC?

I find it hilarious that the CFP committee has no choice but to allow two group of five teams in the playoffs. The system is obviously broken.

Thats because instead of making a playoff of simply the 12 best teams they dei the f out of it

All we want are the 12 best teams. If 3 of those are girls from mars i dont give a f.

Just give me the top 12 teams.

You could get to 10 by having 4 or 6 go to the SEC+Big 10 and then another 4-to-6 taking a lateral-on-paper-but-with-fewer-true-bottom-feeders-to-have-to-carry move to the Big 12.

I don't think it's actually realistic - nobody is going to opt into a soft-landing in the Big 12 now vs hope to improve their position re: the big 2 - but it would be a potentially more stable situation on paper for most of the conference...

I don't think anything will happen just yet, but I could potentially see 10-12 teams voting to disband and reform as a new ACC minus some of the dead weight to get higher payouts. The problem is deciding who the dead weight is - is it teams with lower viewership, or teams that perform poorly in football? Overall records or OOC play? SMU is terrible for viewership, but they perform better than average in conference play and are already giving most all their payout to the other teams. Same with Wake in terms of viewership vs performance. Then you have the FSU/Clemson block where the football was mediocre to terrible, but they still bring ratings. UNC was hot garbage, but seemingly wanted by everyone. BC and Cuse are kinda the only super obvious combo of bad football and bad viewership.

The other problem is if they were to do this, how long does the reformed ACC really last? A few years until teams start trying to jump to other conferences again?

That 4-4-2-2-1-1 formula suggested by BigI is looking better and better everyday. I knew it would. The ACC should have been behind that proposal but were too dumb to see it. I've always liked it because it at least takes some of this subjective playoff committee crap out of it. Assuming 14 teams it would be

sec uga bama texam okla
bigi indiana ohio st oreg mich
acc duk uva
big12 tex te byu
g5 tul

Why would we want Dook and UVa to rep the conference when the two best teams are Miami and GT?

This ain't a beauty contest or committee pick. They finished ahead of us.

Now in the future maybe it should be UVA is in based on finishing first regular season and then Duke has to play whomever finished 3rd for the #2 team to be in playoffs. Who did finish 3rd - I think it was Miami?
The BigI wants a championship game 1-2 both get in then a playoff 3-6 and 4-5. This year the playoff would have been Iowa at Oregon and Michigan at USC.
If SEC followed same model then Bama and UGA in but play championship game and Okla at Ole Miss and Texas at TexasA&M rematch for a spot.
In big12, Texas Tech in and Utah at BYU play for other spot.
Notre Dame gets one at large pick and Tulane G5 spot.

You still have the same problem where we're deciding conference standings despite only playing half your league. It's idiotic.

I want to leave the ACC as much as anyone, but I really don’t think this is going to cause anything major aside from better tie-breaking scenarios to make it more likely the two highest ranked teams get in the championship game.
