Keep in mind they called defensive holding/pass interference and they replayed and it was a serious hold on Qua.

The hold was during his move. The 2 safeties playing center field were already there. Even if he wouldn't have been held he would have run right into their spider web unless I am missing something.

Pass blocking here is unfortunate.

/

There was 5 OL and 1 AB and 1 BB in pass pro. 2 OL barely touched anyone, 3 OL were looking for someone to touch, Clinton Lynch bounced off his guy...and MM whiffed. Unfortunate is probably correct.

That play was designed to be a 1 or 2 read pass play to one side of the field. Not too many receiving options for MJ on that one.

This is not a good play for MJ

address too far back in the ell form pocket
throws into triple coverage

and there's a giant lane to the left an athletic quarterback could easily exploited.

mj had a plan and he was gonna implement it no matter what the defense did.

this play is good example of why this offense is not a good passing OFF
we get just too many missed blocks in general
but Lynch trying to block #4 one on one is ridiculous--255 lb DE vs 185 lb Aback -and that is the designed blocking it seems

I would have designed the play to release CL into the flats after sliding off the DE/OLB, and put the DB that was covering whoever was in the slot a tough position. That area of the field was open, and it would have been a decent yardage play.

MM should have been the one to pick up the DE/OLB, and not Lynch. MM and CL were wasted on that play, IMO.

Y'all are overthinking the whole play a bit. There isn't a well formed pocket and pass protection is the way it is because it's a rollout pass to the right side. All routes are run to the right and the RBs are left to chip defenders and protect for a short time. Matthew's throwing motion is slower than JT's and he tries to float the ball in over the defender a bit which leaves him stationary longer and exaggerates the not so great OL blocking.

It's hard to say what he saw and whether the underneath route was more open but it would have been a great throw if the safety wasn't over the top. Hopefully he only threw it up because he saw the flag, if not it seems like a poor decision. He certainly stood in there and delivered pretty well, all things considered.

Yeah, but 53 still airballed, and asking lynch to block ekanem is still a bad idea.

No if, ands or buts bout it - this was very poor throw by Jordan. There are others that could be blamed for a sack but the throw was not a good play.

The bad block by lt is only linemen that touched a defender. Lg, c, rg, and dt got zero.
Vt knew it was a pass and in my opinion knew it was the ab fly .

Rt pinched down so not a slide right rollout pass protection scheme.

Vt rushed 2 and hit quarterback when he threw ball.

Mj stood in there and made the throw.
