You may be right. I have obsessed over last year’s game far too long. It *really* irked me how that game was literally stolen from us by the refs. That burned my toast and I’m still salty.

Yeah, last year’s loss is right there with 28-3 for the worst sports moment in my lifetime. Truly nightmare stuff. Yesterday was a “regular” loss which sucks and I was just as obnoxiously mad as anyone yesterday, but I am basically already over it, where as I was still thinking of last year’s game earlier this week.

Apologies if this was discussed earlier… but I’m curious about during the game, many times for both teams, it was announced that player number X is now wearing number Y.

I felt like that happened numerous times on both sides. My whiskey-glazed eyes kept expecting something cute to happen, but it looked like routine punts and plays to follow the announcements.

Can anyone fill in what my dead brain cells were missing with all the player jersey substitutions on both sides?

This whole season lined up to be so damn special for GT. We did not play Miami, UVa, FSU,SMU, or Louisville. We started 8-0…Then UGa plays its worst game, its absolute WORST game, in recent memory against us …and we lose 3 of last 4. This is catastrophic failire on historic scale. Someone must take responsibility. I suggest we blame the OL

Listen to yourself. We just won 9 regular season games for the first time in over a decade, and only the 4th time in 25 years.

The deep pass to Patterson that was intercepted - I have been reviewing the play in slow motion and stop action for a while. The blame is 100% on King for that one.

We were in 11 personnel (3 WRs, 1 RB and 1 TE). Hosley is the RB flanked to the left, he goes in motion left to right and goes out to the right flat (he is well covered). Rutherford is flanked right by himself and runs a short crosser just past the LOS (he is covered). Patterson is flanked wide left with rRvers in the left slot. Seither is an in line TE on the right.

Patterson runs a deep post and is well covered. Rivers runs a 15 yard dig route to the right hash and is covered.

Seither runs a vertical down the right sideline and is 6+ yards behind the Georgia LB covering him totally wide open at the Georgia 20 yard line.

King locked on Patterson from the snap and never looked to any other receiver even though Patterson was well covered. and Seither was wide open.

That one hurts badly after reviewing the play! Ouch!
Pretty easy to dissect and 2nd guess without having 300# DT barrelling down on you trying to annihilate you. With that said, Patterson knew the DB was there and should have made more of an effort to go for the ball, or at the very least become a defender to knock the ball away.

Oh, I know, Stinger...I really should be happy with 9 wins....I'm just not...Our former AD, Dave Braine, told ud 20 years ago that GT was a 8 win per year program and that we "better get used to it." I just never did....

OK, so if UVA wins and SMU loses, UVA will be alone on top at 7-1 in conference. There will then be 5 teams, Miami, Pitt, SMU, Ga Tech, and Dook, tied for second at 6-2. Those teams’ W/L among themselves will be: Miami 1-1, Pitt 1-1, Ga Tech 1-1, Dook 1-1, and SMU 1-0. So I guess SMU would still go?

Some of y’all are miserable

Yes, losing to them over and over again sucks. But other big rivalries are lopsided. Clemson/SC, Tennessee/Vandy, Oklahoma/Ok State, Arkansas/Texas, Texas/Texas A&M, Navy/Notre Dame, UVA/VT, Tennessee/Vanderbilt and more. LSU/Tulane used to be a big rivalry, and even after Tulane left the SEC they played routinely until the 1990’s. Tulane joined the CUSA and stopped playing it annually. Why should we do that? I’d much rather have a SHOT each year at Georgia, no matter our chance, then forever giving them the satisfaction of knowing they beat us into permanent submission.

Quitting is the last thing we should do. What a terrible mentality from some of you guys. That is not how Tech men are supposed to approach hard problems. The hard problem here? Figuring out how to beat the mutts. It’s a tough task, they’ve got the Bear Bryant of the 21st century in Kirby. But Tech men ARE NOT taught to back down from challenges.

The same people telling us to drop the rivalry would’ve probably been okay with us if we had decided to drop down to 1-AA when it was discussed in 1982. Imagine our big rivalry being with Georgia Southern? Ugh.
I guess those that want to drop the series would rather us replace the gaggers with a Kennesaw St, Mercer, or Troy. Wouldn't want to make it too difficult for those out of town games.

9 > 8 and we could reach 10.

ETA: This was never a complete team. We played a pretty pedestrian schedule, not weak as some suggested, but not killers. We won several early on last minute heroics. I am of the opinion that you are generally what you are. We can debate we should have beat so and so, but we also could have lost to so and so. It mostly even out. So then, with this schedule, we were a 9-10 win team. That’s not bad… and… we’re improving year over year.

I tried to start a convo about this in another thread. This worries me...
I suggest going to the recruiting forum.

The ranking is a function not only of quality but quantity and we only have 18 commits so far vs a team like UNC that has 39 commits. If you look at average ranking we are right there with most other ACC teams behind the usual suspects. If we can secure a few of the flips we are working, and grab a few more 4 stars, we will firmly be behind Miami,Clemson, and UNC but above the rest in average grade. We want good players, not to win some imaginary ranking. It will be interesting to see how UNC manages their roster with that big of an incoming class.

with our good class last year, 27 seniors, and the expected usual portal attrition; I would say our focus will largely be in the portal this year to get players that can contribute right away.

In hindsight, maybe would have been better to get one of those teams instead of NC state or pitt

How? We’re all 6-2 in conference. The winning percentage among the tied teams, which I believe to be the next criterion, Dook is 1-1 just like Miami, Pitt, and GT.

You are the biggest hater of coach Key I have seen. you say Coach Key has butcher the clock not true look at this year and see the games we won on the last series of the game. Do you think Kirby had good clock management at the end of the 1st half with timeouts and lets the clock run down and they call dumb plays and take a FG.
and as far as the Pitt game it was noted he didn't send the FG unit out that that was another coach and it pissed him off. but unlike you he didn't call out that person in public but I'm sure he had a talk with him. Now as your dumb statement about what they should do if the OL is getting man-handled go back and watch the game again they did double team at times and guess what that makes it very easy to blitz on us as no one there to slow down the guy blitzing.
But I wouldn't expect you to understand all the things a coach has to do today. This is different game today vs 10 years ago. you have recruit player all year. But knowing you, you would say they don't have to each day cause there a so-called dead periods but again they now have to keep recruiting the players on the team because of the portal and NIL. Most of the crap you blame on key is what the coordinators and other coaches are supposed to do now, (I know you hate Key so you will say then he needs to fire those coaches. and then were does the money going to pay to get the new coaches, Tech is not loaded with money) understand only 21 teams out of the so-called big conferences have 9 wins. And yes, MR Key hater you think our schedule is weak I guess we could have play Auburn and South Carolina or even UF you may want to look and see what their record is this year.
Thanks for educating me....means alot ......
Humor me Stech while I make one more point....when you guys write, "Our OL stinks".....I must ask, well, WHO. exaactly.?..which one?...name a name...'m sure Stech knows this already, but the OL is made up of FIVE different guys...in our 2025 rotation, there are six....so do they all 6 "stink" equally? Or is it one particular OLman killing us while the others are OK? Let's call his fat *** out and humiliate him properly!
Oh well, what do I know about OL play...except it is always their fault when we lose...

It continues to amaze me how many of our folks think we should be beating UGAg on a biannual basis. Literally no one else but Alabama has done that in over 10 years now. Yet our folks get PO’ed because we lose that game. Yes, it stinks and yes we did beat them last year but didn’t get the W.
And, the other piece of this, for me, is that until Key took over full time no one in their right mind would ever expect us to beat uga. Now, for three years in a row, we have closed the gap enough that people are actually deeply disappointed when we lose. That’s progress. We used to not care because winning was not even a remote possibility. It’s somewhat counterintuitive, but our disappointment is a positive sign that we are moving in the right direction.

One good thing

If SMU loses

We’ve alr had Tennessee, ASU, and Pitt lose

All four of them are immediately in front of us

So I honestly think the committee might give us credit for playing tough with Georgia. Yes we lost to Pitt, but Georgia is a quality loss for sure and we are 9-3.

dook is 0-1 so they get to go apparently.

And your posts are normally so sensible.
