The malice at the palace (famous NBA fight) turns 18 this month. Are there any brawls between players or fans that you've seen at GT sporting events?

My freshman year was Whack Hyder’s last year as head basketball coach (72-73). His son Tommy was on he team, but did not play much. During the ugag game, one of their players went after Tommy. It was right in front of where a bunch of the football players were sitting. It did not take long before the court was full of fights. I watched a ugag coach try to pull one of his players out, and the player turned and punched the coach. It took a long time to get the court clear. Needless to say, the crowd went wild!
That may have been the fight when our FB players went after the UGA players. See my earlier post. It was just a few weeks after the big scuffle at the FB game. I always thought it was retaliation. I seem to remember a picture of a UGA player standing on the scorer's table in the AJC but may have been in the Technique. I was a senior or just started grad school.

'94 Tech/UGa. It was ugly.

I was also at the Clemson/USC game I think the same weekend as the Pistons event. I think it was Lou Holtz's last game. Gotta love this picture if you're a Clemson fan (which my wife is).

the fact that both this and the pistons fight happened the same weekend is crazy. I wasn't born until 06 but I still hear about this weekend from people who aren't even sports fans!

I've seen plenty of fights with gaggers, often at games that uga wasn't even playing in like the 2008 Peach Bowl against LSU. I remember someone's flag or blanket they were waving around being set on fire near the aerospace building after a game when I was younger, can't remember the opponent. Lots of Clemson fans fighting each other after we beat them in 2011.

Back in the 70s, seems there were fights at every GA game. We were on fraternity row after a game & a GA fan started “jawing” at us! My frat brother jumped off the embankment, kicked the guy in his face, and landed on his feet!
The guy ran off! A remarkable athletic feat!
Another time, at a GT vs GA junior varsity game around Thanksgiving, a big fight broke out on the field! We all rushed the field to get in on it! I started hitting a GA football player & realized that he had pads on, I wasn’t hurting him, (a big guy,) so before he could catch me, I took off!
discretion is the better part of valour! (Yes, I chickened out!)
(Good Times!)

Here it is!

Because it was the state Georgia in the 70’s. Fans were kinda racist.

I've only seen two in person. 1. was a little brawl between GT and Duke at the 2018 football game. Just some chippy play that led to some pushing and shoving, was broken up quickly. 2. Also in 2018 was in my section, Miami was in town, and I sit in CL4, which is next to the visiting fan section. Their fans and us talked **** all game, and an old couple of Tech fans nearly fought a guy, but it was broken up. At the end of the day Tech won, and all those Canes were shut up. (Miami fans are the WORST in the ACC imo.)
I don't know if this counts but when I was 8 years old my parents took me to see Tech and Alabama. The famous upset game at Grant Field. An Alabama fan was behind us and kept deliberately spilling his drink on me (or perhaps not because he may have been too drunk to hold it) which caused my mother to create a scene. My father notified the Atlanta police who "escorted" the young man off the premises, none to gently it seemed. Which was just as well because my hotheaded cousin was sitting with us and had already decked him into the next row. The highlight for me was watching Don Toner intercept that Namath pass right at the end of the game to preserve what Dodd called "his greatest victory".

I was in the band for the 1993 game where Tech started the fight after a late UGA touchdown. I work with Frank Harvey today, he was the running back for U(sic)GA in the game. I still give him a hard time about not being able to score on the drive. Here is the link to the fight.

Also, please do not trigger as there is a coach that is highlighted in the video who may bring back memories.

If you're talking about 1981, that was quite an incredible move.

Here's an obscure one...

Spring quarter 1979 I believe, I was one of the Techwood Dorm "Badoogies" with all my brothers. It was "College night" at a Braves game at old Fulton County Stadium. QUARTER BEER NIGHT!

We started with a cookout in the old Techwood courtyard and threw some offerings up into the famous Underwear Tree in the southeast corner under our 3rd floor windows and then piled into whatever vehicles were heading south on Techwood through the projects on the way to the stadium. Once inside, there were section clearing brawls, brawls in the beer lines, brawls everywhere with dwag knuckle-draggers. EVERYONE got in one. A beer throwing fight broke out and I grabbed my tray of 6 and ran to the next section to save them. An old lady told me to get the hell away from her, and as I was turning to leave someone lunged at me with a fist and I dumped my entire tray of 6 beers on her! I said "Sorry lady!" and ran.

What a night!

Totally Ray Goff’s fault. Keith Jackson was right. Why are you throwing for touchdowns when you’re up 26 with under two minutes left. Idiot.

I recall a brawl in the '93 GT/UGA game after UGA scored a late TD.

Also, I remember in the '97 GT/UGA game, we scored late to take the lead, and UGA game down the field in the last minute (aided by a questionable PI penalty) and scored in the last 8 seconds to beat us in Atlanta. I saw several fights breakout between fans on the way back to the car.
That was the same game that one their (UGA) jackleg fans or staff members deflated the inflated BUZZ in the south end zone by sticking a knife into it prior to the game.

Only saw fight for the exits when a small crowd realized that this was the absolute best GT and Geoff Collins could ever do and a five TD blowout was looming.
