GT has been behind the eight ball since the press, ie. the pundits began the “gimmick” garbage regarding Johnson. Other coaches and recruiters used that mantra for a decade and it took hold. And many GT fans went along with it. So every football player in this state has been told GT is a gimmick since they were 5 years old. That’s why Collins spent his entire first year hitting the rebranding button. The biggest part of changing the”gimmick” mantra is to put GT stars in the NFL. I know Johnson put some guys in the league but none of those guys were focal points or highly visible under Johnson. No QB’s or RB’s that anyone has seen play on Sundays. Our best NFL player is Waller and most are shocked to find out he played for GT because he did very little here.

Collins is fighting hard for all of us GT fans and we all know until we get high quality players we’ll continue to be an after thought. Collins will get us players but right now it’s an up hill battle because everyone is against us. Auburn, FSU, UGA, Tenn, UF, Clemson, Muschamp, etc. all recruit in Georgia and don’t want a viable GT program. Collins is fighting on twenty fronts for us GT fans. I believe he will succeed because he is relentless. And when guys like Brown and Gibbs show up on Sundays the kids who are 10-15 years old now will view GT completely different.

If that’s how you’re thinking the future might look then I can agree it’s not necessary to schedule tough OOC games. But I can’t see a future where Tech beats Clemson or Georgia more than 30% of the time. Going 11-1 and just losing to 1 of those 2 makes Tech a legitimate national title contender. I believe there may be a couple of those types of years on the way, but they are definitely not going to be consistent enough to fill BDS every Saturday based on brand alone. Plus, every single team that’s in the national title picture are scheduling more elite teams. Not less. That was the way of the BCS when record was weighed heavier than SOS. The CFP weighs SOS very heavily, and the elites are adjusting to it. If Tech is going to become an elite team, they are going to have to schedule like one. Most of that is already in place.
Call me crazy but I think we will get back to owning Clemson. They are on a historic win streak against us with 5 and likely 6 straight wins but I think we can turn it around. Clemson’s rise coincided with us beginning to run the triple option. CPJ owned Dabo initially until the talent advantage took hold. GT need more fan and donor support for the program though.

I’ll never understand the argument that Tech has always won without talent. Paul’s best teams had 5-10 NFL guys. At the end of the day coaching is biggest factor but sometimes it’s the Jimmies and Joes. Look at the 2008-9 teams and 14 teams and tell me we weren’t loaded on both sides of the ball.

Owning Clemson? No. Being competitive with them? Probably. Unless for some reason their donors decide to cut their donations by about half, and GT starts getting double the funds they’re getting currently, Tech will not catch up with Clemson, much less get to a point where we “own” them.

LOL... other than Calvin and Bey Bey...we have never put a big name in the NFL.. No Qbs no running backs. Dorsey Levins for a couple of years but he was a ND transfer. Our best players in Tech history were never going to be big time NFL and you are dreaming if we ever get to that point. It seems to be always forgotten on here....30 majors, calculus etc. The NFL is full of illiterate morons.

For Tech to do well it is scheme, scheme, scheme. O'Leary knew it, Fridge knew it and CPJ knew it.

Lmao 😂 You’re another excuse maker that thinks we’re another Troy State. We can be dominant even with our curriculum. Keep playing the little brother syndrome while thumping your chest with the “I’m just being realistic” bs. From a cfb standpoint it’s a good thing that the fan base is turning over with the roster.

I agree. Mistakes are the most disappointing so far. I expect them from Sims because he is so new to this level. The sky is the limit with him and we will forget the beginning. IMO.
But it seems we were out talented by UCF , and out coached/prepared against SU. I really think somehow the team was overconfident because SU had played so poorly up until then. That's poor coaching and senior leadership, IMO. CGC took the blame , as he should have.
Over confident ?Whom ever gave this team that attitude should be tied to the whipping post !

With johnson and the TO for 11 years Tech was never going to send many players to the big show.

High school seniors today were born in either 2002 or 2003. Johnson’s first season was 2008 when they were 5 or 6 years old. All kids of today know about GT football is the garbage spewed by the media about the “gimmick”. These kids know Calvin by name only. And Bebe was solid but he played in Denver. How often were Bronco games shown in Georgia. The kids in Georgia have seen nothing but the UGA sportscasters on both TV and radio make fun of GT football since they were 5 years old. Collins is doing what he can to change that perception. When Gibbs gets drafted on national TV that will do more for GT football than anything since 1990. It’s great having guys signed to practice squads or drafted in later rounds like we have in the past but we gotta have some day 1 guys because every team that recruits in Georgia does.

And Clemson is a model to review. They were an after thought as well. No QB’s or high profile players drafted until Dabo arrived. Not saying we can be Clemson, but we would all have been laughed at if we would have said in 2008 that Clemson would turn into Alabama for football. I understand the issue we have with the “going to school” part. But if Collins can amass enough 4star guys like Gibbs and Sims we’ll be right there because studs attract studs.

I’m hoping all of this is a bad memory one day. But in what year do we turn the corner? I’m hoping next year.
According to our own coach, it should have been this year. He promised last Christmas that he wouldn’t be off this Christmas, insinuating we’d be good enough to go bowling this year. The staff feels 5 years of losing seasons is unacceptable. I’m not sure why so many people on this board are OK with it. 5 years of losing seasons is going to kill recruiting and be just as bad or worse than any “gimmick” talk from opposing programs about the previous regime.

Tell me, how many have we sent to the Big Show in the last 50 years............
128 lol. Or about 2.5 players per year. That’s with the last 9 or so years being largely irrelevant to the NFL. If you honestly think Tech can’t recruit or produce NFL caliber players then you should kindly get back into your rocking chair, because right now you’re off of it.

Tech had 2 or more players drafted 32 times since 1970. 3 or more players drafted 20 times. Only 8 years out of the last 50 has Tech not had a player drafted, and 2 of those happened in 2017 and 2018. And those are just the drafts, that doesn’t include UDFA that make it to the league.

We have had some good players drafted to the NFL the last 10 years, just not enough of them. Waller has a chance to be a perennial all pro. Butker is the kicker for the SB champs. You also have Shaq Mason. Burnett and Morgan have had nice and long NFL careers. The problem is since 2016 we have only had 4 draft picks and none at the offensive skill positions. 2 years we were shut out altogether. Big time recruits want to play in the NFL. We need to show them that we can get them there.

Where are your seats for the Louisville game?

I'm up in 216, row 3, seats 14 and 15.

P.S.
Congrats with the upcoming wedding!
@awbuzz
As close as possible to the bar!!!

228 row 25 but I doubt we will sit there. Going to have a crew of about 5-6 buddies but I bought all the tickets and I just went cheap to get us in the door. I usually end up somewhere in the middle of the upper east or sometimes the walkway betweeen the North and East stands.

I think Waller would be the first to admit he did not apply himself as he should have at Tech. He could have been dominant. However, I am glad he has gotten his life together. I hope he continues to move forward and surround himself with the right people.

If it’s anything like the first home game, you won’t be able to move to seats that aren’t yours, or stand in any walk way for that matter. The ushers/security were all over the place keeping people in their assigned seats/only in the taped off places to sit, and clearing out people standing in the concourses. As well as on top of asking spectators to cover their faces with their masks. I watched it go on all game long. Was actually impressed with how on top of it they were...until it got to the concession stand lines where people were chest to a**.
