And when I say a step forward I don’t even mean about our record. I’m talking about being a solid team that doesn’t just lie down at times. ND, Louisville, VT, and Vandy were just ridiculous performances.
Do you think the team took a step forward this year?

Apply the same “don’t even mean about our record.” Compare the four games you listed to the four worst from 2023.

Nobody disagrees that we want another step forward next year, but I’m curious if you think there was one this year.

The Film guy
"Gt verses Georgia What to expect."

He gives detailed breakdown of gt qbs in ncst game. Says King is injured and has not devloped as a passer. Says Phlo is young and slow to make throws, needs to kearn to step up, but will be better and had cannon.

Its a good film beeak down - pre uga.
The film guy is good and been awhile since i watched this episode. I remember he was laughing and right IMO that Philo was throwing into coverage but his cannon arm made up for it.

!. I don't think Tech will lose either QB to another program. If I were a QB and saw the kind of O firepower Tech has coming back I'd kill for the spot. It would be a likely NFL look to the winner.

2. I think King gets almost all the snaps, as long as he is healthy. Think back to his 2023 season. He was the best QB in the ACC and he'll almost certainly be that QB again. Further, the O has matured - remember, this is Buster's 3rd year, about the time the players start to see what the OC is trying to do - and is built around King. Evidence = his passing efficiency and his lack of INTs. Philo has a bigger arm, but needs another year with Buster/Weinke/and now Bohannon.

3. Philo can't run? Au contraire, mon frere. He isn't as fast as King, but he can find a crease with the best of them and is a load to bring down. I don't think we have anything to fear on that score. He beat NCSU with an 18yd run.

Bottom line: Tech is full up at QB. Behind Philo is Knowles, an unknown at the P5 level but a monster (in more ways then one) in high school. And with Adamson coming in we may have King, part deux. I don't think this situation needs to bother anybody. The succession is in place and looks good. At least for now, that is.
The biggest philo play was in Miami. King ran 20 times 110 yds but was on no pass rule.
Philo was clutch when we needed a big pass play. At pre gane tailgate got to meet his folks and stockton 's patents (both sets are ltotal class folks). Asked them how many passes has philo thrown to stockton - each laughed. I asked just like King is to Lane in a clutch situation will philo be looking for Stockton if he is in. Both said yes. I said be ready because we play a stupid head coach who will not have them ready. Philo looked off as stockton went down 15 and cut ove middle. Philos pass hit him in stride and he went for 27 yds! ( 27% of passing yds in one play). Stockton gets open. As king said philo is going to be a baller.

For both qbs health we will need more called passing plays with no run reads. Also with more mobile ol we need to roll the pocket to get clean pocket for longer. This will help philo get simpler reads.

Maybe start direct snapping to a RB in short yardage situations some to try and preserve King

Well … we all would have liked to see Tech win those games. The first was a matter of being outclassed; I saw it and Tech was never seriously in it after the first drive. I agree about VT and Vandy; in the first the coaches tried to hard to go with experience, even though experienced was at about 40%. Zach was a true hero in that game. Against Vandy, their O proved, yet again, that the demise of pure option football has been overplayed. Then there's Louisville. We didn't lose that game; the Football Gods took it from us. Louisville had 2014 Tech v Pitt luck; I remember one fan board saying that Pitt should have demanded that the Tech sideline be checked for voodoo practitioners. Same with the Cards.

So … it was a tale of injury at QB last year. King's healthy all year and we win at least 8, maybe more. But, yes, the record has to improve.

Or the play Army ran with Captain America last year. King would kill doing this:

Goto the 3:55 mark and watch Daily work. This is their standard inside the 5 play and it almost always works. If Tech had run that in the 7th overtime against Ugag it would have won the game. And it's dead simple to run; all it takes is a QB who can pick a crease. King can do that.

Do you have a better time reference? The video ends at 3:55...or is that the point?

Sorry to all. The actual play starts at 1:07.

As you can see, the play overloads one side with blockers who then take out the guy(s) in front of them and leave the rest to Daily. "Ah," I hear you say, "What if they overload on the strong side?" Then the QB throws over the top of the scrum on an RPO after the D commits. It's pretty much unstoppable with Daily running it. I'm guessing King would be just as dangerous.

I
Our offensive linemen never leave thier feet on 99% of plays . I hope to see us do a good bit more blocking like 52 Moore

Of course we took a step forward this year. I don’t care about records because of all the reasons why not to. Give me 11 VMI’s and UGA and we probably end up 11-1, but what does that mean. The next step for this program is to stop laying big ole fat eggs 3-4 times a season. We know we are improved but that doesn‘t mean more wins. Losing by 1 is not much different than losing by 15. We lost 3 games where we were either not prepared by the staff or just didn’t compete. The VT, ND, and Vandy games were over by the end of the first quarter. And injuries are not an excuse. A loss is a loss regardless. We need to become a program that nuts up every Saturda and if we lose we lose but we don’t just roll over and let a Vandy QB have a party in our face.

The weirdest things I saw this yr from Tech were- 1-the erratic STs play and -2- how the running game/OL disappeared in certain games. then maybe -3-- how we played ok DEF overall but got SO few TOs
