Texas to start paying $10,000 stipends to athletes

And Texas jumps out to an early lead in the bidding war for player pay / stipends. Conferences will need to reign this in....the power five doing so collectively is a must. If not, this will get out of hand quickly.
Stipends are fine...I'm in favor of them to a point. Paying players for use of their likeness....ok...add that into the total for stipend and universities get legal cover and agreement from players contractually.
But if there is not uniformity in applying stipends....it will get ridiculous sooner rather than later. 10K seems a bit much (on top of free education!) and this is TX first stab out of the box.

TX seems to have back off the initial report, now they're saying what it would cost if they DID pay all their athletes.
