Currently, don't you think the reverse it true now, though? It unfairly punishes shorter, smaller, but very talented kids from being able to even be considered?
Not really...it's just an obstacle they have to overcome. Short/small guys have still succeeded in the NFL (for example, Darren Sproles). Not everyone can be a professional athlete, that's true, but at least those guys actually have a shot.

Fwiw, I have less of a problem with the forehead part of the rule then I do with the defenseless player part of the rule.

You can control what part of yourself you aim at somebody. You cannot control if somebody is choosing to defend themselves or not.

If you are in a defenseless position, it is because you have chosen to put yourself in defenseless position, and that's on you. If you don't want to be hit while in a defenseless position, defend yourself.
You say that, but what about when a player takes it too far?

That's just good form there..."enhanced stiff arm" with the right, ball tucked tight in the left.

That'd bring in an entirely new set of health issues, as players would try to do the whole bulk up then quickly shed weight for weigh ins (like you see in boxing, MMA, wrestling, etc). Also, it'd be unfairly punishing larger sized individuals from ever having a chance to play. Some people (for example on our own team, Shamire Devine and Brandon Adams) are physically incapable of getting down anywhere near 220 lbs without taking making some seriously unhealthy choices.

If safety is the issue then the safest situation is when all players are closer to the same size. As far as the issue of penalizing the big guys, the current system penalizes the small guys. The tradeoff seems to be to drastically change the game with rule changes (difficult to consistently referee) or to reduce the momentum (force) issues using smaller players. I just don't like the direction we are going with the rule changes as it is ruining the game.

Not true. If I'm tripped by accident and lying on the ground, that makes me defenseless without it being my fault. If I jump up to make a catch, I'm defenseless and to say that I shouldn't go up and make myself defenseless is to say that I shouldn't attempt to catch any ball thrown over my head.

Additionally, players can be made defenseless by Rule, even if they are not defenseless as a practical matter.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. If you don't want to get broken ribs, don't go over the middle and expose your ribs.

If you're going to expose yourself, you take a risk, and you decide how much that catch means to you.

I think the ref just arbitrarily decided that Gotsis was legally trying to kill the QB and he for whatever reason was against that so he pulled that targeting penalty out of his ***

Are you alluding to this GT football season?
I wasn't, but that's a good example. As 2014 showed, all it takes is a few bounces in your direction for a season to go from OMG to Awesome. I kinda hope that happens this season and, if we still had Mills, I don't doubt that it would. Now, I think we still need to find that BB who'll give us the 4 yards on 3rd and 3 that we need whenever we need it. If we can, then we'll make our own luck.
