Loved seeing Moore and Usher make some great passes today.

I will give Pastner and staff a lot of credit for the assists today. They ran some really nice sets/patterns against the SYR zone which while nominally a 2-3 zone works a lot more like a 1-3-1 zone with the forwards playing really high and Dolezei or the other 5's alone on the baseline for most of the time. The classic way to attack a 2-3 zone is to play essentially a 1-3-1 offensive set and look for shots foul line extended - but the SYR approach takes that away. So we played with only 2 guards out front plus a bit of a triangle action to get Moses or Usher (or an alternative) the ball at the foul line but had 2 guys on the baseline to take passes from the high post. That was where we saw a lot of passes to guys cutting the baseline plus passes to the baseline returned to Moses cutting from the high post. It was a textbook approach to playing the SYR zone and gave our guys a lot of options to move the ball for easy shots.

Absolute passing clinic today. Good to see our guys systemically breakdown Syracuse's defense and dish it to an open teammates.

Also, HOW THE F ARE WE NOT GETTING MORE FOULS?! Frustrating to see defenders jump into our players bodies and we don't get a foul call...while on the other end we get called for it. Pastner needs to tear into refs every time...if he's not going to do, one of our assistants needs to.

Last 5 Syracuse opponents

26 assists on 33 FG (GT)
27 assists on 34 FG (Duke)
22 assists on 26 FG (ND)
14 assists on 23 FG (BC)
15 assists on 20 FG (NC State)

As Mike Brey stated in his presser, it's common to get more assists than usual against the 2-3 zone.

We also got going in transition today (19 fast break points), many of which were easy scores enabled by defense.

Big time win. Great high low action to beat the zone today. Especially encouraged how the team fought back in the 2nd half and then also finished out with 10 on the bench handling other pressure in the last few minutes. Another big one on Tuesday. I felt like the first game against dook was one where we could’ve ended their season at that time when they were down but then we gave them life. Now we get another chance to possibly put a big dent in their tourney chances. Let’s go.

That’s how we got the tech. It was the assistants yelling about an obvious travel.

Boeheim walked several feet out onto the court during play to complain about calls before they inally gave him one. Not a fan of his, but I understood his frustration. The Refs sucked and the worst part was the inconsistency.

What frustration? He came on the court on the first play of the game, and it was a good non call. The cuse defender stuck his leg out.

There's not many things more arrogant than a ref t'ing someone up because they reacted to his blown call. Ref is supposed to eat it in that scenario.

It's impressive to see us, Wright in particular, play through non-calls. That kid gets hammered all game long. True enough, he dishes his fair share out. But he's owed more calls than he gets.
