My reaction to Days on Sat--WOW!
It has been a long time since we have seen that kind of power running.uva is not a namby def.
Then to top it off he catches a TD pass neatly.
Next to our def play,he was most impressive.

Any idea when Laskey will be back? I remember seeing that he wasn't wearing the sling last week.

I say play them both. Have JT and Laskey for the first two series and then Byerly and Sims on the third and fourth series. Let performance sort out who plays after that.

That was some of the most powerful downhill running I have seen in a long time. He put his head down, kept his legs churning, and punished some UVA defenders.

I like the idea of rotating B-backs when Laskey gets back, but why would you want to take JT5 off the field? I'm very comfortable with Byerly, but it's pretty clear by now that Justin is our QB. The only time he should be on the sideline is if he's hurt or we have a big lead.

But the point from Big Philly is that Synjyn could never have been put at BB originally because it took him longer than others to overcome his fumble-itis. I do not recall it in great detail but I also think he was moved from QB to AB originally because of his size and blocking ability more than his capacity as an athlete with the ball in his hands. He got over the looseness with the ball in the process of training and time at AB.

If anything I am not so much regretting his not getting a serious amount of game-play and a chance at BB until late in his senior year so much as wishing he could have just been moved from QB faster than he was. I too kind of wanted him at BB and not QB back in the day as well, however, he seriously just took longer to learn to value possessing the ball.

But I want to end on saying that I love the kid and he is such a great Tech player to root for. So I too wish I could see him play 3 more years and average 3 tds a game. Right at the moment it seems Tech has an embarrassment of riches of players simply easy to root for as all around great student-athletes.
I always liked him too. Circumstances kept him from developing at B-back as soon as we would have liked but I was not worried when Laskey went down because I knew we had someone who was going to be a threat every time he had the ball.

Sometimes it takes an injury to the established starter for the talented backup to get his shot. And sometimes the talented backup never relinquishes the spot. Just ask Wally Pipp.

Days had a great day yesterday and I'm glad we had him as a backup option for Laskey. Still, I'm hoping that Zach gets back on the job for Clemson. Why?

Because Synjyn is so valuable as an AB. The Snobs were spreading out the option and we were having a hard time sealing the edge after the first quarter. I think that was at least partly due to not having Days or Perkins to throw blocks out there. Also, think how effective Days has been on toss sweeps when Zach was still at BB.

It isn't that Synjyn can't play BB and play it well … I knew he'd do fine at the position when it was obvious that Coach had no qualms at all about him moving up to start. It's that with him at AB all the edge game gets so much more effective. But, since it is uncertain when Zach gets back, I sure am glad that Synjyn was there to step in and take over.
Good point.

I disagree. In the last two games we had a first down inside the 10 and went backwards both times. Justin had to make a big long yardage play on third down to pull out the TDs (not going to happen every time). In that situation Byerly gives us another "big runner" threat. He generally makes 2 to 4 yards on short yardage whereas Justin only makes 1/2 to 1 yard and takes a hit. IMO With 4 downs inside the 10 Byerly can more consistently put in in the end zone and avoid some big hits on Justin. Otherwise I agree Justin is the primary QB.

good point, but JT gives us the REAL theat of a pass so if that pulls a safety back some it might help the run

With 4 downs inside the 10 there is no threat that CPJ will call a pass unless/until the run won't work. That's why our scoring ratio inside the red zone is superior to most everyone. CPJ knows what the odds are. He has 4 runs and score vs 3 downs and kick a field goal mentality. I agree with you that if we need a "big" play, Justin should bde the QB. If everybody knows you are running for two tough yards a pop, Byerly should be the QB.
