Are "we" 0 for 2 in Tech offensive lineman ACL recoveries the past couple of years? Uzzi never fully recovered from his either (granted that was after his college career but he never got a look in the NFL because of it).

I wonder if he aggravated it trying to come back too soon? Cottrell was forced to sit out spring, I wonder if it would have been better to do the same with Griffin? I'm also worried now about Cottrell's recovery. Ugh.

Seeing as how Griffin missed last spring and all of last year, that should be plenty of time to recuperate. I wonder who did the surgery.

yeah it was the opposite - and it is a complaint that has gone on for some time at GT - not enough OL.
Well, I am a fan of CPJ, but if injuries decimate this line like it did with the skill positions we may have another 2015 this year. If that happens, the margin of error decreases for this coaching staff. They will own this. The should have signed a few more O-line in the last few years. O-line are usually the smartest guys on the team - so why can't we get enough at GT?

There is a scholarship limit of 85.

There's no way to account for multiple player loss at every position. Like @AE 87 says, there's a scholly limit. Any team that loses 3 or 4 OL's that were expected to contribute are gonna be in a bind. (Burden - just spring, thankfully, Brown - art? really, Griffin - pick up basketball? really, Stickler - head aches.) And you might as well add Shamire to the list with his self imposed elevated mass condition.

Froy played quite a bit in the 2014 season, and he was in on some good drives!! Don't know what happened last year!

We've come to think of these knee surgeries as similar to getting a tooth removed, when in fact, is it's still a major surgery and these guys are top end athletes.

Jaylon Smith of Notre Dame had one of these, following an injury in a bowl game no less, and there are doubts whether he will ever play again. He has gone from a potential top three pick to someone who may never play again. As my dad said, the only minor surgery is surgery on someone else.

You could add as a FN to that list Chase Roberts & Erinn Joe (denied medical RS). . . have I already said how badly I wish we landed little campbell?

(Side rant no related to quoted text)

Nonetheless, I stand by my optimism for this line. I think Bryan-Burden-Devine have the talent to be an elite G-C-G combo. Klock has the athletic ability, size, and footwork to be a great RT - albeit maybe a little light. Marshal is a great safety net as a backup center / swing guard. And I hope one of the morgan twins can be an effective spell for Shamire.

I think some of you are too reactionary. You move to Utah and marry all 5 linemen after 2014. But after 2015, you divorce 4 of them, 1 leaves you, and then you dump the new one, who is one of the most talented. Yes we lost Shaq and that was a huge loss. But a lot of things went wrong last year. Our offense is a system. The O-Line doesn't exist in a vacuum.

We lost a lot of really close games, most of which were to pretty good, some really good, teams - @ND, @Dook, UNC, @VA, VT, UGA. We also got blown-out on the road by a team that gave bama all it could handle and Miami, where our backup QB fumbled like 28 times. I suspect that had we won some of those close games, the criticism of the line wouldn't be as strong... which is mostly the product of logical fallacies.

Our backfield is loaded. We could have as many as 5 future NFL WRs on our team. JeT's SR year. man i can't wait.

We won a lot of close games in '14. Many of those hung on the success a few critical plays. I could point to half our wins and find one play that if it went differently, we'd have lost. My point, we weren't as good as we were opportunistic. Maybe lucky is a better word.

But as you say, the O is a system with a lot of individual parts working in unison. When one part is not functioning properly, it can gum up the whole works. Now imagine 3 or 4 parts not functioning properly and you have what we had last year.
