A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS TODD STANSBURY
The health and safety of our student-athletes, staff and our whole community is and will always be our top priority. This is an unprecedented public health crisis and something that is affecting the lives of people in much bigger ways than sports. Therefore, I am supportive of measures that have been taken to ensure health and safety during this challenging time and understand that we must all do our part to help address this pandemic.

That said, I am heartbroken for all of our student-athletes — especially the seniors — whose seasons ended much sooner than anyone could have anticipated up until just a few days ago.

As President Cabrera has said, these are difficult and stressful times for our entire community, especially our student body. We will continue to support our student-athletes and our whole community in any way that we possibly can as we navigate these unparalleled times together.

Perhaps correct, but where are the exact numbers coming from?

GTAA will not be releasing the numbers right now because they are not flattering.

Note: Per my contact in the GTAA, we as a fan base are notorious for last minute renewals, which is why you see such a push by the GTAA for early renewal dates and discounts. While we were doing poorly, and below the trend line for an off-uga year, we also weren't doing abysmally bad just yet. The problem is when the sports cancellations hit, the renewal rate dropped.

"not releasing numbers just now"

I honestly can't remember - do we normally release an ongoing tally before the end date of season ticket sales?

They have would say how season ticket sales were as compared to last year.

While they don't usually release exact figures, per se, they almost always reach out to the press to say that ticket sales are going ahead of pace. It creates good press and also generates soft pressure to fans that haven't bought/renewed yet by indicating that inventory is getting lower. Needless to say, ticket sales this year aren't good right now.

I think we had better get ready for cancellation of fall and, perhaps, winter sports this year. I doubt that a vaccine will be ready when September rolls around; we might get it toward the end of the year, if we are lucky. Since the health people expect a resurgence of the virus as fall rolls around, I expect to see Tech football again in 2021. There is no way that a gathering of 45 - 50K people will be allowed without being vaccinated first. Especially since Tech's fanbase is, as has been pointed out here before, stacked heavily with (ahem) geezers.

I've already renewed and I expect to eat the cost in the interest of keeping the athletic programs alive. But … we can afford that; not everyone can.
