First Steve Sarkisian at the University of Southern California was fired and started rehab today.

Just now Steve Spurrier at the University of South Carolina (dwag killer extraordinaire) retired.

Weird day for USC coaches named Steve. I have to wonder who will take these two coaching vacancies. Pretty nice jobs for some up and coming coaches.

Both programs will have a long time to select the next guy. There will be some hot names at the end of the season determined by final records. I wonder if they go for an established hc or a new hot coordinator. Maybe hire from within though I doubt that a bit.

I am willing to bet it wasn't up to Steve Spurrier to retire and may have been pushed out the door. Doesn't seem like the type of guy to just quit mid-season.

As a GT fan living in SC I can say that there is more to this story, I am guessing medical but not sure. He wouldn't just quit mid season.

Just ask Steve Spurrier How tough it is to consistently keep recruiting the top athletes, He announced his retirement last night. South Carolina has a 90,000 seat stadium fills it up most every game has all the bell's and whistles indoor stadium etc to recruit the best athletes year after year, This year season has mirrored Tech's so far with hurt players and attrition after a great run of three 11 and 3 seasons; So if everybody wants to get down on recruiting efforts and coaching after a great season last year look at their story Its tough folks
