Spring football exhibition games

I was listening to the radio, this morning. They mentioned that some teams were doing some Spring games, this year. They also talked about the P5 teams, doing an exhibition game, instead of the normal Springs games, that are being done now. I thought this was fantastic idea. Not only would it add a quick jolt of money, to the schools, it would enable teams to play deep into the roster. Was curious what other people's thoughts were on this.

that school 77 miles away in athens is doing one with $10 admission but starting with their millionaire donors and if any left, general pop. I'm sure we will as well. I doubt an exhibition game, against another school like is done in basketball, will not happen. An innersquad regulation (for the most part) game is a better bet.
I don't care what they do as long as fans are allowed in and I'm one of them.

What's an "innersquad regulation game"?

An innersquad game is us vs us.

An exhibition game is us and them.

Spring game is just a practice with a "game like" atmosphere.

I think TV would pick up a GT vs. Texas type football game. Or go bigger. Ugag vs. Oregon... Bama vs. USC... Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma... I mean the possibilities are endless.. I revenue making pre-season football game.

I think it if ever came to that it would be FBS playing FCS. I wouldn’t mind it.
I’m not interested in playing them in the regular season. Give them some of the gate/money from a spring game and let us schedule FBS schools instead during the regular season.

The FCS season is going on right now and schedules have been set. Maybe there would be some teams with no FCS playoff aspirations that bite. I think an exhibition against Ga State would be beneficial for both sides

This doesn't really fit the topic of this thread, but I didn't want to open a separate one for it. I just read an interesting article about sports in America during the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918-1919. If you read the article, published last May, it mentions Tech's 1918 season, saying that we won the NC, repeating what we had done in 1917. I don't remember ever seeing a claim that we won the 1918 NC before. Have any of you reading this?

Yeah, I know. It would be interesting to see comparative records of other teams that year. Somebody apparently decided we deserved to be NC, but that, to my knowledge, is not one of the additional NC's that Tech sometimes makes reference to.

I think maybe Valdosta, but not GA state. It would look awful if we lost in a scrimmage to another ATL team. Would hurt the brand. A lose/lose option to me.

Play Valdosta, or some other random school like a Division 3 team. Reinhardt has a team. That would be good. Would be fun to see us score 100 points.

I just did some more research, and apparently Pitt and Michigan were named co-national champions, Pitt being undefeated and sitting on top of a 30 game win streak.

So I don't know why that other article claimed that Tech won the NC.
A key paragraph from the Wikipedia article on that year is --- "Perhaps the highest profile game was a highly publicized War Charities benefit staged at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh in front of many of the nation's top sports writers, including Walter Camp. The game pitted John Heisman's undefeated, unscored upon, and defending national champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets against "Pop" Warner's Pittsburgh Panthers who were sitting on a 30-game win streak. Pitt defeated Georgia Tech 32–0."

We averaged 66 points a game that year... Did we send 3 people to the Pitt game? Or was that the only team that we played that was worth a damn.

Hmmm, a little more information here. It turns out that Pitt lost their lost game of the season. Now whether Pitt's overall schedule was more difficult than ours is debatable, but it makes no sense that, even though they shut us out, we didn't at least have a share of the NC. As you can see below, we both beat 4 "Independent" teams. Tech also beat 2 "Non-Major" teams, while Pitt lost to one "Non-Major" team.
