The spread has gone down today all the way to -4. It opened at -7. Typically when the spread drops that much this close to kickoff, it means the "smart money" is going with GT.

Well, you have to consider how Clemson and Ugag both played in their bowl games......that makes Tech's wins that much more impressive.....meanwhile LSU lost to a so so ND teams.....and you now have ole Miss getting crushed.

Not sure what this means, except a great # of people are betting on GT. Hope they know what they are doing.

Unlikely. Big line moves (and 3 points on a single-digit spread is definitely big) this late in the game are almost always a few key people betting lots of money.

This isn't public money flowing in, it's sharp bettors.

Question from an amateur bettor (or is it better) what happens to the people who placed their bets when the line was 7? Is the end result of the line the same for everybody?

You get the line you bet on. If it moves, your bet stays the same.

Right now there are probably some GT +7 bettors who are taking MSU -4 and hoping to "middle" or win both bets by the final spread ending between 4 and 7.

Right. And for those bettors, they would lose 10% on either side of 4 to 7 based on the vig? (Based on losing bets lose all the bet and winning bets generally get the money back plus 90% for the win.) That vig will kill you.

Most online books are closer to 5% than 10% but yes.

The idea is that, at worst, you lose the vig but you can win both bets at the same time.

So if you bet $100 on each side you're guaranteed to get $195 back on your $200 investment. If the game lands on a 4 or a 7 you get $295 on your $200 (1 win, 1 push). And if it ends on 5 or 6 you get $390 on your $200.

You have to decide if the probabilities work out to make that a +EV wager, but usually if you're getting 2 "middle" points in a single-digit spread its gonna be worth it.

Would be way better if you had +7.5 and -5.5 though given the propensity for games to end on multiples of 7.
