Since my birth I have witnessed:

Three tournament appearances: (2007, 2010, 2021)
One tournament win: (2010)
Two NIT appearances: (2016, 2017)
One conference title: (2021)

BUT HEY AT LEAST WE AREN'T DEPAUL (y)
Brother... I feel you, and I appreciate you. I'm 48 and at least I got to see Lethal Weapon 3.

If I were in your shoes, I'd most likely not be the GT basketball fanatic I am too...You have to be a fanatic to follow this program.

My irl name is Daniel, and so I ADORED Daniel Miller when he was our big man. The 2016 and 2017 seasons were fun and that period from 2019-2021 when we actually were relevant was quite enjoyable. We just gotta get back to CONSISTENT success and not just flashes.

He took 15 shots last night.
Yet, even CDS made reference to the players second guessing themselves when their shots weren’t falling. That was my main point. “Keep playing the game” as he said. So, to repeat again, it’s not not how many shots he takes, or doesn’t take, or whether he should take more shots or less shots, he was hesitating. Many times he wasn’t decisive. This affected his flow in the game.

I think the coach saw this too.

Agree, neither Nait nor Lance are a source of of our problems. McCollum had a bad night, needed time to fit in & had to rehab a disabling injury. Overall he’s a source of recent success v ND & BC, not the source of problems. Consecutive/multiple injuries & freshman big man prospect departure still remain a major source. But for me the bigger one is a puzzle that no one seems able to solve. We had a freshman sensation last year who was almost lost to the NBA as a one and done. The relief we all felt when he announced his return was palpable. Our collective expectations for a better year than last, whether it be post-season play or simply a better record, had to include an elite defensive big & sure-handed, offensive dynamo who dominates at or anywhere near the rim. Where did that player disappear to? Solve this puzzle and the season is still salvaged. Don’t tell me he’s at the top of anyone’s scouting report. That ain’t a thing anymore.
Nobody has said that Nait or Lance is the problem.

What I do believe is that the issues with Ndongo, which we’ve discussed before, could throw off Nait and Lance’s game if they don’t keep doubling down on their roles. To say the obvious, it’s a team sport and breakdowns in certain positions can have a ripple effect on everyone. I would focus on reminding my two best players of the assignment while another player is working through his issues.

My college basketball teams growing up won 2x as many national championships during my childhood as our programs have appeared in the NCAA Tournament during my fandom. My time at Georgia Tech means the world to me but man was that a bad fandom conversion

I wonder what would happen if Damon sat down and relaxed on the bench during the game. He tells his staff, who fills the bench so much the subs have to sit beyond the end line, not not continuously "coach" the players while they are playing. It is is ok to correct mistakes, but the players already know that. If they practice hard and play like they practice, have confidence in them to do their best. All players know that if they mess up, they may come out of the game for a spell.

But I think too much over watch and "coaching during the game may be distracting. They need to concentrate on what they have practiced to do, all attention on the game on the court. These players are experienced enough to play relaxed and do what they practice to do. I think that is the psychological fix that is needed, especially in contested away games. The coach cannot score, rebound, defend, fast break, etc, but I do see they have their third eye on the coach during the game.

I am "just sayin'" how I felt as a college player on the court and I had enough to keep me busy without getting too much extra guidance from the bench while playing. There is 41 years cumulative college experience on this team, and I believe they can execute the game plan, as practiced, without excessive in-game coaching. They all play better when the coach has confidence in them, they play hard relaxed, and they are not afraid of making mistakes and being seated.

You mean DePaul that went out and hired Chris Holtmann, a proven basketball coach that went to seven straight NCAA tournaments at one point?

Yeah, we certainly aren't them.

yes but DePaul went like 3-29 last year so their AD knew that something REALLY needed to be done.

DePaul last season was at the point GT basketball was in 1981 when they had to hire Cremins. the very very very bottom.

We're just mediocre, DePaul hasn't made an NCAAT since 2004. Which is sad for a program who used to be THE team of Chicago under Ray Meyer.

Pastner also never had a losing season at Memphis, he was proven.
His trajectory dipped with every passing season after Calipari though. Those are understandably large shoes to fill, but they lost every game they played against talented opponents outside of the lousy C-USA. When they moved up to the much more talented AAC, they were very mediocre. I like Pastner, don't get me wrong, but he was a budget retread hire by a cash-strapped athletic association. His success between 2019-2021 was as good as it was going to get and that was with a few strokes of good luck.

I know we can't pull the "Dwags are bandwagoners" card since we're putting about 3,000 people in McCamish on any given night right now but this will make you nauseous.

This is actually not new. Despite the popular refrain that dwags don’t care about basketball by both our fans and most of theirs, Stegeman or whatever it is called has been drawing bigger better crowds than McCamish for at least several seasons now. It is nauseating.

Shooting accurately is dependent on skill and confidence. When I played 100 years ago, when I thought yes! I'll hit this shot, or, oh no I might miss, influenced my success. Making the 1st few gives a HUGE surge in confidence. Similar to putting in golf.

This video is also solely the student section. Our student section typically packs out for our Kentuckys (Duke and Carolina) too. I went to a UGA/Kentucky game a couple years ago that was similarly on a Saturday afternoon and most of the 2nd deck was wearing blue. When I went to our game at the Stegesaurus last season, the place was mostly a ghost town. We'll see how they draw against the USCs and LSUs later in the month.

Not trying to make excuses from down here in Tampa but (besides the losing years), I think the main 2 reasons are: 1) Student participation and 2) Logistics of going to midtown Atlanta from the suburbs or hinterlands 🤷🏻

UGA alums are trekking east all the way up 316 to Stegesaurus so I'm not sure #2 is a good excuse. #1 I will agree with but students have an opportunity tonight to find out how fun basketball games are when enough of them show up. Fingers crossed they have a good turnout.
