Every week this fall, the SI.com team delved into the fun, the weird and the wacky of college football with a series called Between the Hashes. It was a way to decompress from the madness of the games, and to find a few things you might have missed. Here are some of the best from the 2014-15 bowl season.

Saltiest Reaction Award

This is an award that goes to Paul Johnson, as it often does. Georgia Tech's head coach is the Meryl Streep of this award. Johnson' Yellow Jackets beat Mississippi State on New Year's Eve in the Orange Bowl, and he couldn't resist getting in a dig at the SEC. It launched a trend that would soon be followed by other coaches as the conference's nightmare two-day stretch kept on rolling.

Except, as CPJ said via Twitter the next day . . . his dig is directed at the sports media, particularly ESPN talking heads. So is SI intentionally misunderstanding who the dig was aimed at to shield themselves as part of the media? Or did it just go over their head because all they heard him say was "SEC, SEC" and not "maybe we won't have to hear about the SEC" which clearly means he is directing his sarcasm to those who constantly speak about, i.e., hype the SEC in the media.

Miss State coach Dan Mullen has only had very generous and nice things to say about CPJ and they had just gotten done shaking hands. So Coach was not turning around and taking potshots at the very good team from a very good conference he had just finished beating. He clearly wanted to suggest that good football teams exist all around the country and even in the south in conferences other than the one the media focuses an inordinate amount of attention on.

So you are expecting that the media will be like most people and consider the context and the obvious joking nature of CPJ's statement? Thought you were less naïve than that :) As you know they will try to create stories when they don't have them.

I'm still laughing at the first two sentences there. CPJ... the Meryl Streep of Saltiness. Bet his comment after the Miami game would have won this one too. Him and Spurrier's shots they slip into their interviews and comments are one of the reasons I love both CPJ and the HBC
