I had heard that someone had sent in a question about making gold/yellow gear more available than it currently is, but I guess they didn't get around to that. I hope they do next time. And no, I didn't send in that question...LOL

I'm actually very impressed. Sounds like a guy that really understands branding, and messaging and your 3 word story and all that. Loved the answer about "we need to know our brand before we have our partner help tell people about it".

I believe you guys have made a good hire.

I'm tired of hearing about "understanding branding". There are excellent companies and resources out there TODAY that can bring clarity to a brand - brand identity, visual identity, color scheme, messaging, uniform, fan bling, etc. (I will give Todd a pass though because of the Russell contract coming to a close. If he goes with Nike, he can get a lot of this for no charge.)

Tech doesn't use any of them. They wing it. I was in the bookstore this past Saturday and the junk on sale is just mind boggling to me. (By junk, I mean the shear volume of material that doesn't fit our brand scheme.)

I finally broke down and called a vendor, gave him vector copies of the logo, and said "this is what I want" in correct color (Old Gold and White) and specs. It took five minutes. I will bet I will have the only gold cap at BDS this season. So many are navy. Good grief.

So you can actually call a registered vendor and get a special order? COOL. Can you share more info?

Branding is spreading beyond just the sports teams. I just got told today that the Institute does not allow us to put a certain department logo on our posters or presentations because it does not adhere to our brand. We have to use a specific one that has Buzz on it. This is an Institute wide thing.
You can't even go to an online site and make a special order for something with "Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets" on it. Legally, you can't even go to a flea market and find a vendor who makes t-shirts, caps, or mugs with any of the "registered" Tech trademark names or emblems on them. Of course, flea market vendors don't give a damn, but it still seems a bit picky that we fans can't get things like that made to order, when the official vendors for Tech gear don't or won't provide what we would like to have.

The short answer is yes. I'm using upgraded materials but I wanted my cap to be an authentic cap and not one of the cheap junk from China. I purchased the baseball team's cap and was just shocked at the shoddy construction.

Old Gold is not used in production runs (there isnt much of it on the market) but it can be had for smaller jobs.

As I said ... this fall, look for a gold cap. Chances are good ... it's me.

The fact is ... you can get them made to order if you follow the rules. Many coaches have custom made gear to look their best on camera.

This is messed up. Buzz is a sports bling widget. It belongs on AA stuff, not academic. That's what I mean by a confused identity. The Institute should have a fully developed brand book.

Online vendors who are not approved by Tech cannot legally make things to order with "official" Tech names or logos on it. I had a shirt made two years ago by an online site with "We are Georgia Tech; We Can Do It" (I think that was the original wording the Tech student used). The shirt company had no problem with that, but I also wanted Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on it, and they refused, because they were not "registered" with Tech.

That's correct. Use of official logos and such is restricted to licensed vendors. But there is still a lot of latitude there if you work whthin the rules.
