SEC to Play Nine Conference Games

This is my thinking also. The 9 game push isn’t really about more competitive games. Most P4 teams play 9-10 P4 teams anyway…
That said, a better system (and measuring stick) would be an agreement for all P4 to play EIGHT conference games plus a minimum TWO OOC P4 opponents.
I've said and wished this for years... Just speaking as a fan, I'd so much rather get to see new and interesting matchups (it's why my son and I travelled to Colorado this year) than a ninth BC, 'Cuse, Wake, etc.

It seems this happened due to a decision to wait on ND to pi$$ and then get off the pot. I’d say it’s about time to turn those ingrates loose and pick up an 18th team that will be a full member. Maybe Tulane?

Absolutely. The ACC could also go to a schedule where each team has one permanent rival and rotates the remaining 16 teams, the 1-8-8 format. That way each team plays every ACC team home and away
over a four-year period. Somewhat similar to the SEC's new schedule format with a 3-6-6 format.

Tulane would be a good addition and would give SMU a close conference game.

Im still on the UConn train becoming a member. I mean they already beat the ACC Champs (Duke) in football. Men's and women's basketball would get a bump. I'm all for adding UConn.

I really don't care one way or the other about adding teams but I think the comments here are pretty revealing about the state of affairs regarding the ACC.

The SEC wants to expand and who do they get? Texas and Oklahoma. The B10 needs teams? Let's go get USC and Oregon. When the ACC goes shopping? Let's add Tulane and UConn!!

If you can't discern the differences in mindset and a[pproach in the above sentence I don't think anyone can explain it to be frank.

That would be a good addition for the northern tier and add some more rival games for the Pitt, Syr, BC group.

I’m very skeptical UConn would be interested in joining the ACC. Maybe the Big East having a down year in hoops helps a bit while the ACC is getting more competitive, but the ACC is not really trending the right direction in football.

You are certainly correct about the state of affairs concerning the ACC. I doubt anyone on the Swarm believes that Texas, OK, or Tex A&M would be interested in joining the ACC. So, I do recognize
the difference in mindset between ACC fans versus B1G or SEC fans. I am pretty sure no B1G, SEC or even a Big 12 team would be interested in joining the ACC.

The only reason I would like to see the ACC add a team is to go to an even number of schools and hopefully gain some consistency in the conference schedule. I would be OK with returning to 14
or even 12 teams if we could gain some predictability concerning the football schedule and take some of the decision making out of the conference office.

Why would the ACC want one more share splitting of the TV revenue? UCONN BB is very good but the TV contract won’t change adding them. Just a cut in revenue for the rest of the teams in the ACC.

I’m OK with them, Tulane, Navy, or one of the Florida teams. Or poaching Texas Tech or one of the Big 12.

I think people are forgetting that if we add teams who don’t generate a lot of TV revenue, then all we are doing is dividing up the same pie more ways and thus reducing our own revenue.

It’s impossible to normalize the ncaa with this many teams. Even discussing fairness in competition is idiotic. Stop. Dont be dumb as f.

The only way to do this is let the best in the world determine the top teams and order

Vegas. Just let them list the teams. Its about damn fullproof. There is a reason for all those pretty big buildings

I wonder with the Pac 12 being back in business, move Stanford and Cal back to the P12 and then pick up one team to get to 16. I have no idea however how you would get Stanford or Cal to move back and what affect that would have on TV revenue since California has a lot of subscribers.

Cal and Stanford would likely just go independent before ever going back to the G5 level Pac 12, not going to happen. They have no interest in being associated with a bunch of schools with 3rd rate academics.

On paper the ACC is stronger than the Big 12 because of the potential of FSU and Miami and Clemson, but in practice it’s weaker because there are so many more tiny negative-ROI programs and so everyone else is kinda hostage to FSU, Clemson, etc . Programs in the Big 12 are on more equal footing.

Don’t add anyone to the ACC that would make that even worse

The perception of the ACC is that it's at risk of poaching and falling apart. Why? Because it has programs coveted by the B1G and SEC. The B12 doesn't have this problem.

That’s only half the story. The Big 12 already got poached - Missouri, A&M, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma.

If the ACC had lost four programs at that level (discounting Mizzou here) it’s unlikely it would be anywhere close to the current Big 12.

Nobody assumes all the top programs are going to be in the ACC in five or ten years, and anyone left behind may be worse off than those already in the Big 12.

The ACC is seen as at risk because some of the big names are on record as wanting out and the rest of the league is pulled down by weaker bottom.

Next year will be interesting. According to this NBC article, "Most" of the ACC teams will go to the 9 + 1 model while some (Probably GT and others) will stay at 8 +2 or 8 +3 in Tech's case.

I don't believe GT will drop Tennessee or Colorado next year.

See excerpt from NBC article below. Makes me question what the tie breaker rule will be like.

A person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press that most league teams will transition to the nine-game slate next year, though multiple teams will play eight league games and two against Power Four opponents — an “8+2 model” — to accommodate nonconference games already on the books.

By 2027, the person said, 16 of the 17 teams will play a “9+1 schedule,” while one team will have to play an “8+2” slate.

The ACC is dead. UConn? Tulane? Are you guys serious? Who you gonna add when 6 teams including us leave? UAB? South Alabama? We have, maybe 3 more ACC seasons, then turn out the lights.
