So with exit of Summers, how many schollies will be open for next year?
Will any of the walk ons be first in line for them or will the recruits we are trying to peruse get first dibs?
It seems we didn't have enough to go around during the last cycle and perhaps will have an aundance this year.
Anyone have info?

Not a lot. We weren't anticipating a large class to begin with. I think the only Seniors on scholly were Golden, Milton, Skov, Demond, Byerly, Snoddy, Noble, White, Hunt, Marcordes, Chamberlain, Tobin, Joe, Braun, and Gotsis. That's 15 by my count.

I haven't taken a look at the recent team numbers, so there may be a few more (e.g. Dennis Andrews, not sure if his was ever filled). In any event, we should have at least 16 open, but probably not more than 20. If any of the walk ons are starting they will get one - Alford and Willis got put on scholly this year.

Really I think it will all come down to whether there is any more attrition.

We have 3 ol commits and 1 dt commit.
All other 4-5 dl offers have committed to big schools.
Next year 16 @ dt will be 2 sr and 1 soph w field experience. We will also have 1 red shirt freshman dt (glanton) and a converted ol to dt (morgan). If sr get most of the playing time in 16 , we will be thin in 17.
DO we need a second dt in this class?

Now that we've gone to a 4-3, yes - 2 Dts in a class isn't unreasonable, especially since we are still somewhat transitioning out of the 3-4. It's at least no different than us taking 2 ABs, WRs, DEs, OLBs, etc. in a class - we play 2 of each of those positions on the field at any given time.

SMorgan is not a converted O Lineman, he was a two way player in HS and played DT during his HS school time.

Thats good news! .
So we took 2.5 dt last year = round up to 3. Henderson is doing well.
DO we need to take one more for possible school, injury etc issues? I think we are ok unless we get a star.
Sure hope these guys like eating and working out - need to hear the number 315 behind their name by end of next year.
I like the recruiting last year & think we are on same track now.
A bright spot for sure

ice,
YES,YES YES we ALWAYS need another DT--it has been the biggest weakness of PJ's tenure--spend less time of the 3rd string 170 lb Aback (maybe DB ,maybe KR) and get some LARGE hogs.

It is rough,but the truth.

Absolutely need another DT in this class....it ain't like we aren't trying but I'm not sure what options are available out there. I'd be ok with signing a DT that is a bit of a "reach". More viable option at this point may be signing another OL that looks like a possibility to transition to DT.

Perhaps we could recruit wider area than 200 miles from tech and Florida. But late for that this year. Got to flip some one who can help immediately.

Recruiting outside of Georgia sounds awesome......convincing a big nasty DT to come here from outside the state has been more difficult than any of us like. Derrick Morgans and Eric Hendersons haven't been flooding to us. Both were actually DEs also......

We can discuss this area recruiting after season
My key point till then
We have a bit of an academic requirement . IT IS AN ADVANTAGE .sell it as that and go on the road.

Look on college cfb stats at 2008, 2010, 2012 etc for stanford roster. In 10 they had only 1 dt from calif .
Their team reflects the demographics of students. We should recruit like our demographics = ga,fla, tx, cal, nearby states .
Sorry to mention another good school. It usually gets folks into orbit.

Let's put Shamire out there at DT. No one could move him.

Maybe we could even let him play a little iron man ;)

The reality of Stanford makes people get all in their feelings on the board. I wonder if saying Duke will make them feel better.

Anyway GT needs DT's adding another one in hopes he's the next Suh is imperative. Scour the globe I say.

New staff not as much. Mainly in state guys on the line. We can hunt more broad to help and grow them. Thats the only way imo. We should be taking 2 a class. At least that. Maybe some classes 3.

Re: DT, until we start hitting more frequently and have stability at the position, I'd be more than ok forgoing position balance in recruiting. I don't mean do something crazy, but maybe pull one from random positions - AB, DB, LB - each year until then.

Easier said than done, plus we need viable options that want to come to GT. Not just "get this guy if he's big" type of deal.

That said, potentially that's already the philosophy, but my belief is that there are guys going to less desirable schools that we could reel in. Also last year's class was a great first step.
