Didn't we put Gotsis outside on occasion last season? I don't see why we couldn't do the same for Hunt.
I think it's because you have better options outside this year. Whitehead is eligible and freemand and simmons are each a year older and better.
Last year (at least early in the season) gotsis may have been the best pass rusher on the team. I don't think that's the case anymore. (just my opinion)

Man, with Jabari and Gotsis manning the middle we must have the fittest/most athletic tandem at DT in the country! Neither of those boys look fat...at all.

His stats in high school looked like they were made up they were so outrageous. Once he gets to the next level of college training and conditioning he might add an extra 10 sacks to the defense. Hope he develops quickly.
I remember thinking that too. The only player we've had recently whose high school stats looked like that was Marco Coleman. Like Simmons, Coleman looked like a "tween" to most coaches and Coach Ross had a pretty clear run to get him to come to Tech. I remember a story after Coleman signed where Ross was bewildered that anyone with a sack count that high was being essentially ignored.

I also agree that, once he gets a little more meat on his bones, Simmons will be a holy terror on the field.

Wonder what the chances are we could see Gotsis at SDE with Hunt, gamble, and Mallon manning the middle? Gamble did well at SDE last year when pressed into service but I think Gotsis is more of a natural there. Last year we couldn't afford to move him from DT however.

Will likely have the same scenario this year but someone making a big step up at DT could give Roof lots of options.

With Gotsis and JHD at DT in 2015 (Kallon and one or two frosh backups) I think we will see Gamble a lot at SDE. In 2016 with Gotsis and JHD gone I believe Gamble moves back to DT and St Amour takes over SDE. Gamble's versatility makes this work . 2016 DTs Gamble and Kallon are backed up by Henderson, Glanton, and S Morgan. Both D ends would be 3 deep with talent and experience.

Is the 2nd to last vid Lawrence Austin? He'd beat me in that 20 if I had no chute. Built like a brick house also.
Kid's definitely been hitting the weights pretty hard, I'm excited to see those Austin boys this year. Something the Morgan's said about being a twin...always having a workout partner to push you to get better, definitely rings true for those boys as well.

Yes, I think some may have fallen asleep on the Austins. They had so much upside when they came to Tech that some may have forgotten that they still needed a good year of college level training to reach their full potential. The fact that they were kind of forced into playing sooner meant that we may have become complacent about them, just seeing them as kind of journeymen every day kind of players. They could very well have a breakout season this year and start doing to college players what they were doing to high school players a couple of years ago.
