I do agree with you, you just hate to lose young arms that might develop. Though if you look at the guys who have left. Finateri and Schomlke were ok, both with ERA above 4. But most of the guys who have left haven't really done much.
Pitching is a question we obviously haven't found an answer to.
You see most of the top arms from hs go in the draft. Then you rarely see a freshman come in and make a significant impact. When they do those teams find themselves in good situations (hasn't happened to us in a while).
Schulman is supposed to be a superb pitching recruiter. What I heard exactly is that he's the pitching equivalent of Ramsey when it comes to recruiting. If he's that, we're going to see some good things very soon. We hired him in July of last year, so this will be his first real full recruiting cycle and we have some guys that look to be very good.
I think getting a couple of really good arms in the portal would go a long way this offseason. Then get these kids on campus and let's see what happens.
Last year's class wasn't really pitcher heavy at the top. Musci was the highest rated and he was coming off of injury I think. I think he was the only PG10 and maybe even the only one above a PG9. The incoming class has 2 PG10s and a 9.5. The trick will be making sure we get them on campus and don't lose them to the draft. Getting highly touted hs pitchers on campus is tough.
