A much higher percentage of fans cared about football, clown was hated so much everyone was thrilled with just about any other choice. Key had it better.

It's not that people don't care about basketball, but in my opinion a higher percentage are content with waiting to tune in once they hear once we're doing ok again. Cross has to get people to even give a crap, then win them back.

From a roster standpoint, it's about a draw. It's a smaller amount of players to replace for Cross, but Key had to deal with widespread clown infestation.

Key had a LOT more resources to turn things around for GT football than Cross will have for GT basketball, relatively speaking.

From a logistical and practical standpoint, it was difficult for Key because football has so many different pieces you need to make it successful, but Cross is competing in a league where only one school made it to the Sweet 16 (Duke) and they reportedly spent $12 million to get there. Cross can turn it around quicker if GT gives him the support to get a couple more very good players, but if not, expect next season to be a developmental/rebuilding season where GT takes a lot of lumps. It's a lot easier to turn it around in basketball, IMHO, but the resources also need to be there. Is GT getting Cross those resources? TBD...

Fwiw, Key won right away with the players already on the team.

With that being said, your point stands about turning around a basketball team.

Good point. Not that it could have happened but wonder how it would have worked if Cross had taken over from Stodamire during the season? The challenge with basketball, far more than with football, is players just running out the clock on a season so they can transfer and get their next check.

Key was already on the staff and knew the players and the players knew him. They aren't similar situations.

Cross coming in is similar to Pastner. The contributors to Gregory's final team were mostly out of eligibility. Pastner took over a team with little experience and had to fill the holes just to field a team. The difference is that in this era of mass transfers there are a lot more options out there. There is also more competition for the transfers.

I think worse. Very few QB’s or other stars last four years. Without a QB, you’re out of luck.

The only thing I've seen is that since '21 about 60% of all players in both sports transfer at least once. That doesn't really answer the question as you have these 4 team guys.
