I think that after 10 years there might be a message here: Johnson is an offensive coach and defense is what is on the other side of his option. It is entirely possible, and given fails already, that a third DC is just moving the deck chairs about, and it makes no never mind who it is. Defense seems to have gotten its share of the scholarships so I don't think that is the problem. I do not think the entire staff is a group of recruiting buffoons, so that ain't it. The problem might be Georgia Tech. Those big, mobile tackles stacked three deep at Clemson -- Georgia wasn't bad either -- are not coming to Atlanta.

The problem with our defense in our down years has been the offense in our down years. When we don't flatly outscore people, as in exchange 10 points for seven or so, we lose. The secret to improving the defense might be fixing the offense and living with the rest. We know it works.
