Armchair QBs are annoying, but will someone please ask very respectfully the following tonight on the show:

1. Why on 3rd and 1 on the goal line did we run Thomas up the middle twice when it had not worked earlier in the game and the previous 2 TDs were questionable with the same play. (really just want to understand the reasoning so we can all move on)

2. Why we didn't run the clock out at the end of the first half? Alabama made the same mistake in the GA game, but it turned out better for them.

Thanks,
kathy

1) why did you continue to put a WR on the line in the slot when you didn't use him as a blocker and UNC didn't cover him.
2) why did you stop in the 2nd half from putting the A backing motion to get a read on UNCs defense.

This?? We ran the play multiple times with the WR in the slot and he was completely uncovered. Do we not have a check out if the QB notices that no one is taking the slot reciever? If the slot runs an out and the outside receiver blocks this is a big gain. I understand using the guy as a decoy to pull a man out of the box, but they weren't biting. Why not hit a play off of it and make them respect it?

THANKS for this post! So nice to hear what is in his head instead of guessing. Really interesting answer about the corners taking the rocket toss away which had been working away from the goal line; something I would not have known/caught. And I can understand the clock with UNC having timeouts in the first half.

Can you summarize what he said. I won't have time to listen to it until later tonight.

I am not sure I heard his rationale about #1, but for #2 he wanted to get points. UNC had timeouts and he had 3. He called a pass play that was open but we didn't execute it well. On second down he called a QB draw that we turned folks loose on. On third down they rolled the coverage to the WR he was trying to throw to in order to get a first down.

He also pointed out UNC didn't have to use any timeouts within the 50 seconds they had left in the half.

1) in hindsight was it a good idea to keep Justin out of contact scrimmages prior to the start of the season since you really haven't done this before with any other QB

Even though I know the answer. After the TD w/ 3 TOs, why let not Butker kick it deep out of bounds. If get a 3&out, (like the D did) you are now starting the game tying drive @avg your own 40-45 instead of inside your 20?

Are you referring to the kick off that we tried the onside kick or at half time

I agree but at the same time man was my section of the stands electric when it looked like we got the onside

Why kick it OOB and spot it at the 40 when you can kick it out of the endzone and they start at the 25. I assume they tried the onside kick because the D was gassed and we weren't even slowing them down and the coaching staff felt the only way we were going to get the ball was an onside kick

That's what I meant out of the end zone.
