NC State fans are the worst. They all seem to have an attitude that their football program is much better than it actually is and it shows in the in game demeanor. We have been to numerous games at Carter Finley and have been ragged on every time. Sat next to two obnoxious older dudes at the game where Calvin made the greatest ever behind his bidy catch and the dudes just kept giving me ****. I went out to get drinks and I asked the guys if they wanted something and the one smartass said “Mountain Dew”. Actually brought him one back and after drinking on it for about 15 minutes, I asked the guy if it tasted funny to him. He put it down and stf after that. His buddy thought that was funny as hell.

I just looked it up and it was 92° at 4:52 PM that day. Atlanta’s record high T° on Sep. 25 is 93°. I was at that game, but for some reason the heat doesn’t stick out to me as much as GT @ Tulane in 2014. Maybe because I knew I wasn’t home and couldn’t escape if I wanted to.
It may been 92-93 but for me, sitting in the direct sun without a cloud in the sky, made it absolutely miserable. It didn't help though to see RW running in and out and around our defense most of the game.

Will either of the pro gt campers make a dent.

I think Lane is at nyg and sylvan is at panthers?

Two of my favorites .

Any others?

Nice (paywalled) complementary article about Jordan Mason’s recent trade to the Vikings. Surprising amount of detail going back to his recruitment to GT, where they must have interviewed Andy McCollum. Includes quotes from Choice and Key about Mason's time at GT.

Jordan Mason's trade to Vikings
Any takeaway you can legally share?

I’m always interested in the evolution of a running back from a spread option college system to becoming a pro.

Nothing related to what you are asking.

There is a lot about his recruitment.
Summarized from the article:
Only offer was from UTSA when McCollum started looking at him. Very good athlete, well mannered, and a solid student. McCollum had to convince the others at GT to recruit him:
“Who else is recruiting him?” Johnson asked McCollum.

“Well, nobody.”

“Why not? What’s wrong with him?”

“Nothing.”
Key said it was "close to embarrassing" to go 3-9 with both Mason and Gibbs in the backfield.

It talks about some plays that he made at GT. It says that Key and Choice were pushing him hard to NFL scouts and teams.

It says that the Vikings were discussing him after the SF Minnesota game in his second game as a starter asking: Who is that dude? Where did he come from? Why hasn’t anyone heard of him until now?

Nothing about the Flexbone offense or transition from college to NFL.

Thanks! Great info.

And I always love stories about athletes that “no one” was recruiting or who was off the radar. Some things still require the eyeball test and the human touch.

@RonJohn provided a good summary. To add, two of my key takeaways are that Mason was under the radar in high school, and remained under the radar at GT. The second thing that sticks with me is something I have shared with friends in the past, and was essentially stated by Key- how incompetent does a coach have to be to go 3-9 with not one but two top-tier NFL running backs on the roster at the same time?

Key was embarrassed that a team with Mason and Gibbs in the backfield only won 3 games. Key and Choice strongly advocated for him to NFL teams.

Mason has a great ability to read the play and make his cut at the correct moment.

The author thinks the Vikings got a very good RB in the trade!

I think as others have alluded to, I would say that there was nothing "close" about it.

Two things quickly became apparent to me when we hired Collins. One, he had a bias about option football and Coach Johnson that bordered on bitter hatred. Two, Mason got put further down in the depth chart because of this bias. He was “Johnson’s player” and Collins did not want to highlight him in any way. I know coaches can all have a bias but this was petty and hurt the team.

I actually don't think Collins had a bias against option football I think collins had walking orders from his friends in the booster group to completley distance himself from it. Paternaude ran a lot of option at temple.

Maybe… He was also quite inexperienced and 100% salesman. I certainly believe he would bend over backward to pander to the boosters… even in spite of success.
A little more coaching experience or a little less salesman and he might’ve been capable of saying “sorry, guys, at some point I need to win a few football games.”
I honestly don’t think he was wired for that level of self awareness, though.
