There is essentially no difference between a PWO or walk-on or a scholarship player for any sport; the differences are in scholarship money and how they got there. A full scholarship player gets all of his tuition, fees, books, etc. paid for by his scholarship (typically seen in football and basketball), a partial scholarship player (typically seen in baseball and other non-highlighted sports) gets a portion of those tuition and fees paid, whereas a preferred walk-on and a walk-on do not get anything paid for since they do not hold an athletic scholarship. Meanwhile, a PWO means that you automatically have a guaranteed spot on the team, even though you aren't a scholarship player. Finally, a walk-on means just that; you showed up, tried out, and made the team. When you make the team, be it a scholarship player, preferred walk-on, or walk-on, all members of the team get the same academic benefits over regular students, and there is no further separation between a scholarship player or walk-on; they are treated the same
