Falls are actually the single highest cause of death in the elderly. Not necessarily the fall itself, but the complications. As a PT, and as a son , I saw this up close.Broken hip is one of the biggest risks for increased mortality in the elderly. Lots of complications possible and the limited mobility has lots of downstream effects. Very sad how rapidly someone can go from healthy and lively to debilitated from a fall
PSA: have those close to you consider using a cane, or walker. As I told my patients- “No one PLANS to fall”.
