Nothing against your post but I think you have a good bit out of position, JMO, but I could be wrong of course.

IMO Glanton will be a NT, hes Over 290 and moves well for his size but I think our DE’s will move a little better and be in the 260-270 range. I think Smith will be NT as well or maybe even move to OL.

Henderson will be a OLB or safety, Alston will be DE, Mitchell will be ILB, Dawson will be DE, Carpenter, and Cole will both be safety, Thomas will be a safety or OLB.

1. The new DC has way better talent than at Appalachian State...
2. We will soon see if He can really coach up the players better than "Ted Poof"...

Serious question, why do you say Swilling at CB? Have you heard anything? I only ask because he had 2 other guys besides Kerr that were ahead of him last year that are on the team. Also what do you see in Cerge-Henderson to play at DE.

Not a fan of some Simmons CB attributes, particularly his ball skills. Choice was pretty much by default. Imo, will be either Bond or Swilling

Doubt if it happens but I’m a fan BJS being at OLB. I want speed and strength out there like Attaochu, but he they think he can a be Roquon for us in the middle by all means keep him there

Yea I agree with that. I really think Askew might win a starting CB spot. IMO his skill set was the best of the DB’s in his class but he was just smaller.

personnel might be deployed in our new 3 - 4 defense. I took a look at our
roster and tried to sort them by weight and my perceived view of their
potential to perform in our new alignment. So far I have come up with the
following:

The middle man or nose guard would need to be a Gorilla, hard to move yet
capable of penetration when needed. Here is what I see there

1) Brandon Adams
2) B. Glanton
3) A. Smith

This would require a rotation to keep the big men as fresh as possible and I
think we would need to go at least 3 deep here.

The 2 guys that line up next to him would also need to be large yet quick.
Here is what I see:

1) Desmond Branch
2) Antwan Owens
3) Tyler Merriweather

1) Quon Griffin
2) Cerge-Henderson
3) Chimedza / Martin

I think again we would need at least a frequent 2 man rotation. I put the
freshman Griffin in here because I think he has enough dog in him to play
right away.

The next level consists of 4 guys that play linebacker and at times,
defensive end on one side or the other. This is the area where we will see
some interesting combinations. Here is my thing for now:

Outside

1) Saint Amour
2) Dingle
3) Johns

1) BJ Swilling
2) David Curry
3) Domineck

I think this would give us the speed rush we are looking for from the
outside when we need to bring it. A lot of true freshmen in my mix here but I
think that is why we recruited them.

These guys are the most experienced part of our defense.

I agree with you on all points , however i would like to add emphasis on the point u made on keepimg legs fresh. I think we need some set situational and regular rotation plans for the younger players as well. Will be tough at first but besides team depth we will get team pride. When its passing down i think we could be deep in the depth chart at line backer as we search for speed to cover tight end

I agree that the Thomas kid from niceville will be good as CAM was particularly excited about his recruitment. He could be happy about them all, but i got the feeli ng he thijnks we could have an a j gray type.
Further - watching local basketball hear in panhandle , i know he is on a very bad niceville team. Word is he is double and triple teamed but is a warrior.

Pretty good list. Maybe Dingle and Henderson are switched outside to inside and Jalen Johnson is a safety or OLB and not a CB. I agree with BSwilling on the outside. Cole has been playing S and might be ahead of the frosh on the S list.

Really good post ! However , I am resisting the urge to equate " names " ( many really unproven ) on a depth chart to good , or better , players. I am extremely hopeful that the new defensive staff will start to evaluate through a fresh set of eyes to fit a changing scheme. If nothing else, it will give our opponents something different to think about. I don't think our defensive personnel are too far off where they need to be generally, ( thanks CTR ). And I think a fresh attitude , and aggressive , attacking mindset, will improve performance and recruiting. Bring it on !!
