Position Changes?

Db has me more worried the most. We don't have the speed needed to cover most wr's in the league. So that means 15 yard cushions and being dinked and dunked to death. Add that to the fact we can't put pressure on the passer or cover a lick over the middle and we could see record passing stats against us.

I'll be interested to see what Dotson and Wigley bring to the CB position. I loved their film, and they may have the quick hips and agility to make up for not having 4.3 speed. I know they are both physical, and I think we need an injection of that at CB.

CPJ really likes Dante Wigley, Lamont Simmons, and Meiko Dotson at CB. Says their ceilings are higher than the guys leaving. They just need experience. Durham played very well against FSU...and their WRs are not exactly slow.

I think AJ will be a stud, but we'll need to develop another safety (possibly Austin from nickel to S?)

There may be an upgrade in talent in the defensive backfield, but we lose a LOT of experience. Time for Roof and Speed to coach them up!

The bold part has me worried. That's a mighty big "just".

I was about to make a joke that our pass defense sucked this year anyhow, it's not like having inexperienced DBs would make it worse...then I checked the stats.

GT was #37 in pass yards allowed this year. I would venture to guess it would have been much better had we been able to consistently pressure the QB. All in all, our pass defense was pretty decent if you consider that.

Well, you can't get experience if you don't play. Worst case scenario, they give up a passing TD on every play....and our offense gets more opportunities to show us what improvements they made in 2016! :)

On Walker, from the AJC after signing day:

"One number, though, is particularly intriguing – 10.71.

It was his time, in seconds, in the 100-meter dash at his sectional meet this past spring, which was good for second place. (He was sixth at the state meet.) The following is a comparison of only two data points, but when Tech quarterback Justin Thomas won the Alabama state high school championship in the same event in his senior year, his time was 10.79."

There's some speed for DB.

Do we have any info yet on position changes? I suppose maybe we will know more in the spring. Here are some I'm most interested in:

1) Will Campbell stay at QB or move to Safety?
2) Will MJ stay at QB? Or go back to AB or to WR?
3) Will the glut of AB's have changes? Maybe T Marshall to QB? Maybe MLD back to BB?
4) Will Lynn Griffin go back to DB?

Any others worth talking about?
J Johnson S or WR?
I would like to see a freshmen moved to C so that in his third year he is ready to start.
Will all three OTs (Griffin, Klock, Bryan) stay at T or will one move to G?

I believe Klock will start at OG opposite Shamire Devine.

Bryan and Griffin are odds on favorites to man the OTs.

Yup. Been beating this drum all year. People don't realize how thin we are at QB. Just because we have guys listed at QB doesn't mean they're equipped to run this offense at a high level. Having a QB and having a good QB are two separate things.

JeT is clearly the starter. MJ got some snaps this year, but hardly enough to make anyone comfortable should JeT go down (*knock on wood*). Christian Campbell probably got less than 10% of the practice snaps in our offense since he was 3rd string and redshirting. He may not even be a QB come this time next year. Taquan has taken approximately zero snaps at QB.

Hopefully the staff can sign a stud QB this year and groom him like they did Vad and JeT. Treat him like a #2 QB while redshirting, and if he catches on quickly, possibly playing him. Lots of good dual threat QBs in this class...staff needs to close on one (or two) of them.

you are right--we desperately need a QB--not just anybody came come in and play QB in this system
we really lost A LOT when Ratliffe got hurt--we needed a QB in that class, now we really are scrambling for someone now--the fact our top candidate (Marshall from Ala) is really a WR type is SCARY

Again, we'll know about Jaylend shortly, he's due to enroll and will be on campus. Really keeping my fingers crossed for him, based on everything I've read I think he has a very good shot at being cleared.
Cleared yes, but you have to wonder what affect the injury and lack of playing will have on his legit chance of real contribution. Just making it to where he is feat to commended.

I'm betting that Bryan takes over for Braun. This isn't a knock on either him or Klock; both look like they are capable. The main difference is that Bryan is 6'3" and Klock 6'4". Given equal talent, I'd prefer a shorter guy at guard. The DTs are getting more squat every year.

All this provided that 365 isn't right about Klock moving to DT. I have to admit that's a possibility since Fromayen and Stickler could both push for OT positions in the spring. Both have game experience and have shown they can play. No need to keep a player with good D instincts on the O side if the backups look like they'd do the job.

For some reason i thought the staff was very high on CC at qb. Not sure why they would move him considering we have little depth there again. Where did u guys read that?

The way I read Cuse's post of a few weeks ago, the main thing from Campbell's point of view was he wants playing time yesterday. He is going nuts not getting on the field. He thinks he might have a better shot at that at DB.

well, we will need help at both spots next year, but if his brightest area is QB then I hope they keep him there.
