That’s MTG territory and those people believe Jewish space lasers are trying to manipulate our minds. “Unique” culture.

I think Andrew Clyde is the congressman for that area of the state. MTG is on the west side of North Georgia. Not saying that Clyde's constituents don't believe the same, but MTG is all about MTG and crazy talk gets her name in the media, I'll leave it there so this doesn't become a political thread.

My real estate pals here tell me interest rates are the issue.
In Rabun it’s over pricing. If you wanted to buy Nick Saban’s place on the lake (which looks like a castle and finally sold, I think) you take the price tag in stride because that’s how you roll but if you want a typical middle class family home you’re going to have to really want to live in the mountains because you’re definitely overpaying for the house.

So interest rates might be an additional deterrent but that has been zero deterrent on St Simon’s Island by comparison. We moved from a slow market to one that booms by comparison.

The Deliverance book was set in northwest GA and I was responding to the statement about the Georgia / Tennessee part of the state.

Prices are high everywhere. That's true here because of skilled labor shortages.

If you are buying a second home you are not in the economic group that really needs lower interest rates. People buying a 1st home as a residence are also more likely to be servicing a student loan.

My friend's family has a house on Lake Burton. Went there with him in college and fell in love with that place. Unfortunately, it's become to GA lake life what 30A has become to FL beach getaways.

Give me the lakes in the TN and NC mountains any day over Burton now. I'll even take Lake Martin in AL and Keowee in SC over Burton these days.

A GT connection to Deliverance. The very last scene (except for the arm floating out of the water) was shot at the Dillard House and the lady who was serving the food to the remaining rafters was a Dillard and had a daughter who graduated from GT in about '73.
My brother-in-law is getting married near Clayton. We will be staying near Rabun. What is current feeling about the Dillard House. Comments on the internet have not been great. I have heard it has changed hands.

Most locals have seen the Dillard House as a tourist trap for some time. But each to their own. If you’ve never been you might enjoy it as a one time experience.

In my experience the ownership became very interested in pushing political agendas rather than practicing hospitality. Their customer service suffered as a result.

The market in Rabun County went from inflated prices due to demand and lack of inventory with brisk turnover to little movement and sellers still wanting to cash in on the high prices. We sold in the nick of time. We got high five figures OVER asking price with no contingencies, no appraisal, and no inspection. Cash.

That market is gone.

Not where I live. They're still paying 20% over asking price, cash. It's crazy.

I think that thread died….somewhere in the north Georgia mountains, I hear…..
I agree. I’ll check back here for this thread’s resurrection between April 16th and 25th which marks the spring transfer portal window. Looking forward to seeing some talented interior defensive lineman heading our way for the summer (no insider news here just blind optimism)!
