Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The ACC Coastal isn't a dumpster fire. It's a spaghetti pile. But a two-team race has emerged from the mess between defending division champ Duke and a steadily improving Yellow Jackets squad. Tech's conference schedule is done, so it is left to sit and watch Duke host North Carolina on Thursday night and Wake Forest to close out the regular season. If the Blue Devils lose either one of those, Tech faces FSU in Charlotte for the ACC title.

GT has quietly accented its triple-option craft with some downfield passing this season. But still, Paul Johnson has the kind of alien approach to his offense that gives opposing defensive coaches night terrors, especially when it's running at full song.

There are plenty of people within the FSU program who admit privately that they would rather see Duke and its more traditional pro-style offense on Dec. 6. And getting back to that concept of a teetering FSU, falling to a two- or three-loss Georgia Tech team wouldn't hold up well in the crowded beauty contest of one-loss teams.

If Georgia Tech can beat in-state rival Georgia, the SEC championship could get more interesting.
But even if Tech doesn't win the Coastal, its wrecking-ball ability could reach beyond the ACC. If Missouri stumbles against Tennessee this weekend (totally possible), it would allow Georgia to slide into the SEC title game. But if the Ramblin' Wreck upset the Dawgs in Athens over Thanksgiving weekend, it would make life mighty hard for the SEC West champion to make the playoff if it loses to UGA in Atlanta.

I cherish the thought of us 'wrecking' the SEC this year. My desired outcome would be for us to beat UGA, for Mizzou to lose, putting UGA in the championship game against Bama, and beating them. Then you would have a crappy 3 loss SEC champ trying to make a case for their conference. HA!

The SEC would be wrecked by Tech!

I still think it would be hilarious for us to beat UGA and go to the ACCCG while Mizzou wins the SECCG with that loss to Indiana hanging over them.

The great defense for the current failing system is that no system is perfect but at least this one generates conversation and keeps college football relevant. I say hogwash. When 99% of the conversation is negative, I don't care if it's relevant. Eventually the schools outside the SEC are gonna get fed up. Right now, they're too enamored with the cash flow coming in, but in time, even that won't be enough to perpetuate the cartel approach to crowning a national champion.

And then probably the committee would put ugag into the playoffs where they could run the table and win a Natty, does anyone want to risk that happening? Always pull for ugag to lose always

No way they would let a 3 loss team into the playoff. SEC or not. The whole credibility of the system would collapse, there would be an outcry from all of the one loss teams that didn't get in. Way too much damage for the purpose of satisfying the SEC minions.

Heard on CBS Sports yesterday the opinion that the SEC champ SHOULD be guaranteed a spot regardless of record. They are the preeiminent league, and they have won 7 of the last 8 national championships in the BCS. You see how this is a self-fulfilling prophecy? No mention of the manuevering and manipulation to get SEC teams into the BCS to begin with. Hell one time it was LSU and Alabama in the big game. They said Alabama was named No.1 this week soley because the committee wanted to keep Miss State in the top four--and they could not keep them #4 and Alabama #3 because Alabama had beaten them fair and square. It stinks so bad. They are hoping against hope that Ole Miss routs Arkansas, so that Miss State can get a quality win over Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl. Miss State is out even if they beat Ole Miss is the Rebels lose to Arkansas because Miss State's OOC sucks so bad and their one quality win against LSU is looking poorer and poorer. BUT THEY ARE STILL TRYING to finagle them into the final four!! The committee and ESPN still have their fingers crossed. And they still maintain that even a 3 loss SEC champ would DESERVE the nod over a slew of one loss teams. Arkansas is 5-5, but #29 purely because they are in the SEC west. It is a fantasy. SEC west is only "the best division" because a bevy of talking heads like Barnhart and Reece Davis have read scripts that say so. If Arkansas beats Ole Miss and then Ole Miss beats Miss State, while Auburn beats Alabama, and we beat Georgia, Slive will go all Robin Williams.
