I'm sure they have known about it for a while, Pretty sure the back up plan was in place a couple practices ago, coaches are usually the first to know about injuries and how bad it usually is

Wasn't he just moved to 1st unit at LT? If he had played 1st unit ,he would bea 3 yr starter. Great for '16.

Griffen was already red shirt as a freshman. Can someone confirm if he can also get a medical redshirt?

He'll have to apply for a MedRS after his eligibility has expired. Typically, it's harder to get the MedRS if his first RS was to get bigger and stronger. It'll depend on whether he has a good reason for the first RS, other than development.
