Opportunity for GT?

I know for a fact that Duke recruits the SoCal region. My co-worker's son got an offer from Duke last year. So why not?

At any rate, the only way I can watch a GT game live is either to fly cross country or to have the following scenarios:
1) GT ends up playing a bowl game along the west coast
2) OOC games against a PAC-12 team

So, that's why its only my own selfish reason to play USC or UCLA. I would be willing to drive to San Diego St as well!

I know the feeling...outside of going to Atlanta, I have seen 2 Tech games, ND '97 and ND '07. Fortunately with Pitt being added to the Coastal, every other year is a Tech game only 4 hours away.....plus I will make it to the ND came in '15.

Texas - Houston and Dallas has large alumni base and high schools around / not in are good and produce great players . Lots of folks have moved to texas so going somewhere else to school would be no big deal. This area is heavily recruited so it would need to be a special case.
East Texas and and west part of la is bigger than ga and has no major colleges.
Lots of alumni know the coaches - Friday nights in Texas are special - my son is coach - in 6 years 2 nfl players - 6 major college - the coaches would know which kids couldn't cut the academics but they would love to see those kid that could cut the grade play at tech

Bring on the recruiter we would love to help Tech.

Is there a reason why we can't recruit in California? I don't think that the coaching staff should give up because they haven't gotten many from there before. That's like at work when someone tells me, "That's the way we've always done it." That phrase infuriates me.
There have been years where Georgia produces more BCS signees than California. There is a reason why Georgia produces more SEC signees than any other State.

Sorry but I think the pool of potential recruits in Cali is so minuscule it would not be worth the time or money to focus any effort there.

We just need to do better in our traditional areas.

We are competing against every SEC team in our "Traditional Areas." The whole point of The Migration as a recruiting tactic was to reach outside of our traditional areas and use our academic prowess to get kids from all over the country who valued education.

And in Cali we will compete against PAC12 etc. Let me ask you this...time and money for our recruiting is finite. What % of resources do you feel we should expend in Cali and other western states?

There's even more to it than that. Relationships built and cultivated over time is the key ingredient to good recruiting. How could we possibly have that on the west coast? We'd have to start from scratch and think of all the time and money it would take to build relationships that would yield any dividends.

I know Stanford recruits the east coast, but that's apples and oranges. They have an unlimited budget and more importantly, very high reputation with their target recruits, namely the scholar-blue chips, the same guys we're after. I think it would be resources better spent trying to fend off Stanford in the southeast, than to try and outrecruit them in their own backyard. Like I've said before, they even outrank us in our specialty - engineering.

I do not think there is any difference between FCS players and much of the lower tier of BCS players (schools like Eastern Michigan etc) The bigger factor is the limit on scholarships.
The term "BCS" refers to the 5 power conferences ( in today's parlance), which does not include Eastern Michigan.

Technically, I think BCS stands for Bowl Championship Subdivision over against FCS, the Football Championship Subdivision. It is often used as shorthand for the BCS teams in AQ, automatic quailifying conferences.

That is what I have always understood it to mean as well

Technically, I was wrong but not entirely. FBS is Football Bowl Subdivision and BCS is Bowl Championship Series. All FBS teams could have qualified for the BCS, so all FBS teams are potentially BCS teams. However, as I said before, "BCS teams" has been used as a shorthand for members of the AQ conferences.

Yes, as the terms have been used, the BCS teams would be a subset of FBS teams.

It's not the only way "BCS teams" is used, though.
Yes....since every team in the "FBS" is eligible to play in a BCS game.....when someone is talking just about the conferences, it is commonly specified BCS conference to be clear :)
No need to beat this to death.....it was simply a misunderstanding......but the map does show the concentration of high school football "hotbeds" I really hop Tech takes advantage of playing at Pittsburgh to start recruiting in that area of the country. (I grew up about an hour north of Pittsburgh.....that part of the country lives for high school sports.......I played on game in a stadium that sat 4500 and there were 9000 at the game, we often got escorted out of town by the state police after an away win.)
