Notre Dame starting tight end Durham Smythe's status is uncertain for next Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech, Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.

Smythe, a redshirt sophomore, suffered an ankle injury late in the Irish’s 34-27 win Saturday at Virginia.

“Durham Smythe has got an ankle, and he’s probably the one guy that we’re not sure about his status going in, but everybody else looks to be a go for Saturday,” Kelly said during a teleconference.

Smythe started the past two games for Notre Dame, catching one pass in each of them, for 6 yards and 7 yards, respectively. The 7-yard grab against the Cavaliers was a touchdown catch on the first drive of the game, off a fake field-goal attempt, with holder/quarterback DeShone Kizer completing the pass.

I feel bad for the young men who train hard but have an injury keep them out of the game.

But at the same time, I hope no one thinks that Notre Dame will be at a diminished capacity - they have recruited well over the years and have very capable backups. They are far from one-deep.

I hadn't seen on here that Chubb was dinged up against Vandy - ankle but probable for USCe. http://www.donbest.com/ncaaf/injuries/

UGAg loses Chubb and there will be wailing and lamentations  ..... their 20 other four and five stars (tic) won't be able to carry the load. These type leg injuries are hard to recover from when you play every week and keep getting beat up .... look at JT last year after Fluke.

A brief aside: doesn't Sony Michel sound like a girl's name?

@CuseJacket can this thread get a sticky?
After discussing it with the mods, I've decided to remove the sticky on this thread. While I agree with the general idea that this thread can be perpetually updated throughout the season and should be easy to track; I don't like the idea of this thread being the only thread to be permanently highlighted at the top. Instead, we'll find a slightly different way to organize a list of these types of "week-to-week" threads so that we can still easily find them without inundating the top of the football forum with too many sticky threads.
