Yeah. A lot of the time we look at recruiting rankings and think that's the end of the story. But you can have great recruiting, year upon year, and still not win consistently (*cough* Tennessee *cough*). It's more about whether you have the people you need to make things work and know how to use them.

Interesting article. However I don't believe that many here feel that recruiting is the 'end" of the story but rather the beginning. Too many other examples besides UT (Fsu, Miami, and the other UT come to mind) for any rational person to think that recruiting is the only component to success.

Definitely a major focus, just establishing the brand and culture for recruiting and coaching purposes is in the limelight of social media, news articles, and everywhere else.

I think this is the thought process that many of us are concerned about. We can recruit lights but cannot just expect success because of that. Coaches have to be able to do more with more.

Coach Collins is a great recruiter but then so were Lane Kiffin at Tennessee, Butch Davis, Ron Zook at Florida. What did all of them in was not recruiting but being unable to win big games and in the case of Zook having trouble with both the Mississippi schools. Winning only three games the first year and winning only four or five the second year will be more or less expected for Coach Collins under the circumstances. Come years three and four, that will not be acceptable but for the moment he has the absolute backing, as he should, of T Stan. Just win baby as Al Davis liked to say back in the day.

One thing that’s ignored often especially for College Football is that it’s starting to get rare that head coaches are seriously involved in play calling and game planning. Dabo and Coach O stand out to me as two Program Builders that are very lucky to have amazing Coordinators. I don’t see Tech reaching the levels Collins predicts without a stud Offensive Coordinator. Tech just simply can’t obtain and never has had the front 7 talent (outside of maybe 1990) on defense to put teams in a box and be able to win while being vanilla on offense. That’s been UGAs strategy for years and years. Now Even Alabama and now LSU have completely overhauled their whole program prioritizing offense. This might be a little off topic in terms of recruiting, but what I’m getting at is if Collins can be an elite recruiter, he can get bailed out by his coordinators if they use the talent the right way.
