Plenty of unsubstantiated chatter (as of Saturday morning) that it's probably a torn ACL, hence out for the season. We'll see soon enough. Regardless of the Irish depth, which is pretty good, it's a blow to them; Jones' stats from last year, over 11 games, were 40 tackles (7.5 for loss), 1.5 sacks. And he'd blocked four kicks in two seasons. That's a 6'5"/315 hole to fill for the Irish.

Jones also got injured late last season, missing the bowl game against LSU -- which the Irish won.

When we lose guys (Cottrell, Leggett, Andrews, Harrell) our team gets worse. But every team has the same issues. I say this to say that I think we've been pretty fortunate this year so far, especially compared to last year.

Unfortunate timing for him b/c MCL tears don't even require surgery. Just time to heal, grow back, and strengthen - usually about 3 months.
