Not a bad idea. Especially for some teams we know …

You're right. It is a good idea. To do a good job of it you would have to have the mind to play chess with a clock ticking. But someone who had some ability like that and only had that sort of thing to think about would be pretty valuable.

Or better yet, have someone (or multiple) input the game in real-time into a computer simulation and have it spit out probability/statistics for each situation. Like a ESPN game cast with situational statistics….

There should be a decision tree with canned answers that will cover 95% of the circumstances. I'd be very happy if our HC got that 95% correct. The other 5% would be a gift from heaven.

And…to reference an earlier post, those of us who play chess with a ticking clock know that you memorize certain openings, responses and lines of play. That greatly cuts down your thinking time as well as eliminating lots of blind paths in your decision making.

Anyone remember the game in Athens a few years ago when CPJ let the dwags score so we could get the ball back with a little time left and a chance to score and tie the game? Memory is that we were down one, they were inside our 20 and their RB basically ran untouched into the EZ. The Reverend Richt wasn't ready for that and hadn't coached his guy to get the first and take a knee so they could run out the clock. The dwags score and kick the EP to take an 8 point lead, but we got the ball and at least one more shot.

The man was a genius with in game strategy and clock management. Especially apparent compared with the incompetence of the current staff.
