Hopefully the speed of the hire indicates that this was somebody very high on the list for coach key. And it’s always good when a major fanbase is really upset to see him go.

Reports: Georgia Tech hiring Texas' Blake Gideon as defensive coordinator
If hired, Blake Gideon would take over the role left vacant by Tyler Santucci, who was hired Tuesday by the Baltimore Ravens to be their linebackers coach.

Fingers crossed on this hire. Difficult for first year DC's that have not called plays before, especially in this era of fast paced offenses. That said, last year was Santucci's first year of calling plays so hope abounds that we have a repeat situation.

What could any of us do, start bitching already about how he’s not good enough? Who here is putting up the $$ to hire anybody?
He’s GT’s coach. We’re gonna have a great defense. This kid’s gonna earn a HC job. Top notch recruits are going to flock to us. Third time’s a charm, he’s gonna dial up a mutt beater D. That’s what we got to look forward to.

The hysteria around here a year from now when Gideon is being mentioned for other jobs because he did a good job here is going to be funny. GT fandom at its best. Question a hire when it's announced, then lose your minds because that same coach did a good job and has other opportunities. Rinse, repeat...

I love this hire. Agreed with the assessments that he's somewhat "high risk, high reward" - but that's what you get when you play Moneyball. I think he's going to do an amazing job for us.
One thing for us to be aware of - apparently Texas fans were very frustrated with him in his first year there, as things in the secondary took a while to get going. But once the train started rolling, it picked up speed and became a force.
It normally takes adjustment to a new DC - and this one will be no exception. But I think the future looks really bright with him at Tech.

I tend to agree with this. Maybe Gideon reached out to Batt ….I believe we are over the “truly bad” hires of our recent past. Will some be better than others- undoubtedly. But IMO , a combination of Batt and Key will
“vet” the hires very well. We are no longer desperate to just have a body fill a hole in the staff.

Thoughts:
1. CBK was ready. He must have had an agreement with Santucci last year.
2. CBG is another young coach. Is this a trend designed to attract players?
3. Our coaching staff: BK, BF, BG. I guess it's great to "B" a Yellow Jacket.

The only risk with this hire is defensive position coaches seeing another defensive position coach getting the DC job. I could see some of our current defensive coaches listening to other offers if they are forthcoming.
