WVU fires Brown after six seasons, 37-35 mark

Neal Brown, who went 37-35 in his six seasons as head football coach at West Virginia, was fired with three years remaining on his contract.

@LongforDodd Malzahn’s wife is sick, so he was trying to lighten his schedule. Plus, he was probably getting fired. UCF was supposed to be a less demanding job—didn’t work out that way.

I saw that was a reason for him to pull back on play calling duties this season, but I can’t find that now. She was in the hospital two years ago. Let’s consider that questionable for now.

He was definitely on the coaching hot seat. Interesting days at FSU and UCF. I think both will have to hit the portal hard this year

LOL! Lightening your load is getting fired by UCF, not having to work and getting paid by both Auburn and UCF. Now, if you're wife is sick, that's the way to do it. The way he did it, he's taking on a big role and not getting paid by UCF.

Funny thing - when Rhule was hired by Nebraska, I heard him on SXM(Mad Dog?) right after the announcement. He mentioned TFG during the interview, but nothing ever came of it....

My thoughts about this and why I posted:

I don't think anyone at FSU is excited about either of these guys. Oh, I am sure some of their fans will make noisy positives posts about them, but these guys are place holders. I was worried they might make a strong $$ push for Faulkner or Santucci and force us to give both a huge raise. I think FSU admin wants to see what happens next year with Norvell before making a decision about his future.

I think most of them are happy with White. I’ve seen very little complaining about Malzahn, and a lot of optimism.

As much as we said that we needed to get away from a “scheme offense”, FSU just went to one to save Norvell’s job. He’s also bringing his OL coach with him.
