You're not wrong we're scheuling harder OOC than most, it's just we're stuck in the crap ACC and our program will never elevate with the line up we got. We need Auburn, Tn, SCe and maybe UF on the schedule on some sort of rotation. The Colorado deal is nice. Glad we got ND on our schedule periodically. Our weaker OOC should be teams like USF, UCF, Ky, Miss St, etc. The Gardener Webb, Temple, VMI type crap needs to go.
We will have one FCS team every year almost all the time and that makes sense. GT will never have the depth of many of the teams you first listed so there needs to be at least one game where we are truly a superior team. Temple is not much different than Miss St or Vandy, USF or UCF in most years.

If the goal is to pack the stadium with opposing fans than go for Auburn, Teen, etc. If the goal it to win games and have a shot at a conference Championship then our current schedule model is fine in my view.

Root’s point still stands, though. Every good team in the country wants to have a few locked-in victories on their schedule. Even Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. The season is too grueling to just have all “interesting” opponents. You need a few practice games to rest starters, heal injuries and work out kinks in your execution.

Next year will be tough. No Miami, ND, or FSU on the schedule. Only Clemson and UGA for potential big matchups. We do add Colorado though so we will get the Deion media attention.
things setup right for viewers. Week 0 vs FSU, UGA Friday limited competition slot and the only game in our slot for the bowl game. Having games where we are the only or primary game helps.

Whoever said it is an indication of what could be with big 10 matchups every week is right on IMO, the TV folks saw that potential long ago. We just need to keep building this program and then the only thing I worry about is how in the hell we get out of the sinking ship we're on. What a mess the ACC is at the top going way back.

The only hope I have for getting out is UNC wants out also and they are politically crooked or savy enough to make something happen that may shake it up so others (ACC schools) can survive that have the potential to survive in major CFB.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that CFB is now a rigged game at the top.

There are conferences at stake, TV networks at stake, schools at stake--- lots of money, jobs and positions at stake. The two most critical IMO are the conferences and maybe most of all some of the TV networks which may have other pressures that are also forcing the issue. That last one may and may not be, we'll see.

Everyone would prefer to win more games, but the first thing we need to do is bolster our schedule wherever we can. Who really likes pounding VMI? Look at how many fans attended the dook-Ole Piss game. No interest. We need the best match ups we can get.

Next year we're stuck with Wake, dook, BC, Temple, Gardener Webb. Half our schedule is lame. Our only path next year is to blow all the bottom feeders out, win all the soft middle and hope we can win 3 of 5 against the teams that should give us a game. 8 wins minimum, should win 9 or possibly 10.
100-0 BDS ALL RED TFP
THEN
Season 1 - we lost to crummy teams ( bg wf) after they got ahead. We won a few big games by stupid other teams and got boat raced Had to pass to try to catch up (hb, bc, lem (8 interception). Defense and ST were tsrrible. BUT DAMN WE WERE FIGHTING AND SCRATCHING
Season 2 played great against good or very talented teams ( fsu, mia,nd, uga ) and won 50%. In spite of zero interceptions and improved defense, somehow a few equal teams got ahead and se could not catchvup. The qb run scheme and rb was tough on qb.
( The start of season injuries to TALL pass catching TE and WR put a big kink in the planned scheme) Our coach and fans were high energy. OMG, GT WAS FUN TO WATCH-FROM START ( FSU IN IRELAND ) TO FINISH (UGA)! 100-0 IS NO MORE. A GOOD SEASON THAT SHOWED VERY GOOD POTENTIAL.

Season 3 -CAN WE GET AHEAD AND INCREASE A LEAD. ?

This fall I had several people ask "why isnt Gt in SEC.
If we think UNC will help Gt in anyway - forget it. They are the Texas of the SWC - sink it for thier own network.

Don't know what you were reading into what i said but never said or indicated that UNC was going to help us directly because they're not.

Imo, they are going to appeal to us into being a swing vote then will stab us in the back. Fortunately , there are 4 acc teams in North Carolina the tv market wont let stand if we play hard ball.and have positive marketing to stay interesting we can be the guy who plays hard ball.

Put another way, if you had your pick of AD from any of the North Carolina schools, or the one we have, who would you choose? We are finally grounded in a program whose leadership is smart and motivated. I like our chances.

We limped through most of the schedule this year, banged up. We need a few gimmes just to heal up.

Colorado will get a ton of viewers. Clemson should.
Gardner Webb and Temple might both be way down the dial (ACCNX and ACCN)

I see two “gimmes”, a near gone in Wake, and a lot of competitive games, unless we improve a lot in the off season. NCST has some loyal fans, but this isn’t the best lineup for ratings in 2025. We might be on the CW a lot.

2025
Aug. 30 at Colorado
Sept. 6 vs. Gardner-Webb
Sept. 20 vs. Temple
Nov. 29 vs. Georgia (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)

Home: Clemson, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

Away: Boston College, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest

Maybe not, if we make a statement against Colorado opening weekend. Starting our year in Boulder is a blessing in disguise. The top end of that team is gone, and it’ll have a ridiculous amount of eyes. After such a miserable showing in the playoff and bowl season, there’s a chance we might be the media darling for the ACC this season. What a concept…

(To be clear, I mean MEDIA darling, I’m not so foolish as to think the ACC will ever care for us, I want out of this conference so bad)

You don’t have to look far to find people disappointed that our record didn’t improve over last year and that “that’s all the matters” regardless of if some people see progress against a harder schedule.

You want more people in the stadium! Start winning 9 games. Casual fans will see that 9 and get excited more quickly than seeing a 6 or 7 and saying “oh but it was against some good big name teams.” Losing to ND in MBS did us no favors for attendance next year.

I'm in the minority here but playing in front of a full or nearly full stadium that's rocking is much better than having 25k show up to watch us pound VMI to the point we never stop the game clock in the 2nd half so the game ends early. I'm sure some get excited notching that win over VMI but to me it's a yawn. I'd rather have the nailbiter against the mutt or have a competitive game like da U. The difference between 25k and 40k in our stadium is very noticeable. Where's there's 45k or 50k, we have a great environment for football. Just look at the Miami game, way too many da U fans, but the atmosphere was outstanding & that type of game that attracts fans.

More resume fodder supporting our move to the B1G.
why do y'all want to leave?

look at what has happened to Maryland. Sure, their pockets are deeper but their football team has had four winning seasons since they joined and haven't won more than 8. They haven't had a winning record in conference play.

The conference that gives us the best chance to be competitive is where we are right now, the ACC.

The difference in the payouts between the Big Ten and the ACC is just way too big. We are never going back to the SEC, so the Big Ten is our only viable option to play with the big boys. Unlike Maryland, we actually have a decent football history, and being one of (if not the only) member of the Big Ten in the south will get us much more attention from fans and the media than Maryland. I think we will do much better than Maryland in the Big Ten.

I see this argument a lot and I disagree with it.
Maryland is Maryland. Their records as a Big Ten member look a lot like their records as an ACC member.
They had a nice spike of double digit wins seasons under fridge, but that was the exception, not the norm.
They look the same record wise as they have forever… they just have a lot more money.

I think this plays out in this manner for most of the teams making the conference moves… the are what they were for the most part… just with more money and resources.

See the other responses to this. I would add, the B1G is showing nothing but steady revenue and market share gains. The ACC is showing the opposite. Tech could become an elite team but if it is in 5th rated conference in the nation, that elite status won’t last or mean anything.

But in future years you’ll have a better environment for all games if you string together a few 9+ win seasons in a row.

We need to be in the fanbase building phase, not the fanbase maintaining phase.

Jim Phillips will restructure the payouts in a few years. There’s already talks for it now.

In the Big Ten the BEST we will do is 8-4. It’s just too damn loaded as a whole.
