Mid week game round Robbin idea

hear me out: we already play all the in state teams during the year. Why not just make an “in season state champion”. Just make the midweek games a round robin game, and then keep standings throughout the year. The scheduling is pretty much baked in, and it could create the simulated feel of meaningful games late in season to get ready for the tournament.

Nothing is stopping fans from already doing this, but maybe the teams could announce something “official” and set aside a Tuesday later in the season where the “championship” game would be played at Truist, and the other teams could play each other depending on seeding. You wouldn’t necessarily know where you would play that game, but keeping it with in state teams means you would never be traveling too far

Our midweek record the last few years has been nothing to write home about, but in 2019 we swept Southern, State, Kennesaw, and Mercer while taking 2/3 from Georgia. 9-1 in state record with the only loss on the road at UGA, that was a state championship team.

I decided to take YoungSting's advice where he/she said "Nothing is stopping fans from already doing this" and I crunched the numbers for 2019 - 2025, excluding 2020 (Covid shortened season). I learned some things, the most surprising being that UGa and Mercer don't play each other in baseball. I wonder what the story is behind that? I also learned that we haven't won this mythical state championship since 2019. We need to change that this season.

Here are the top 2 and the bottom 1 for each of the seasons:

2025: Tech (5-0), UGa (4-0), Kennessaw (1-6) <-- We need to beat UGa to take home the trophy!
2024: UGa (8-0), Tech (6-3), Kennessaw (1-7)
2023: State (8-3), UGa (7-3), Southern (3-10)
2022: UGa (7-3), Southern (8-4), State (2-9)
2021: Mercer (7-2), Tech (5-3), State (3-13)
2019: Tech (9-1), UGa (8-3), Mercer (2-7)

Note that these were done manually by scrolling through schedules, so there may be small errors. But I did double check in most cases, and even triple check a few that really looked strange to me.

Thanks Fred! I had not noticed till I looked at your table....UGa is not only ducking us except for the Truist game, but they are completely ducking Southern, in addition to always ducking Mercer.

What a joke! I know there aren't any UGa folks who post here, but if there are any that lurk, you are officially being called to the principal's office. You got some splainin' to do!

ETA: I took a closer look at UGa's schedule...they played 4 games/weekend each of the first 3 weekends of the season, and thus don't play any mid-week games after April 22nd. My guess is that they have a theory that they need to play a bunch early and then "rest" their arms the last month by only playing weekend games. Will be interesting to see what this does to their bats.
