Hope this makes some of you feel a little better. At least we got a W. There are different levels of embarrassment in college hoops.
Boise St, rated 20 spots higher than us lost to a Division 2 school opening night. Coach Leon Rice had to face the press afterwards.
We all know Josh well enough. His UNLV lost to a 300 rated Tennessee-Martin opening night and court dedication to memory of Tarkanian in front of his widow.

I’m sorry to see Coach Pastner getting off to a bad start like that. I hope he has success.

Difference UGA made 15FT & UMES no treys and 18 turnovers.

This is not,… “not much different than ours.”

This is significantly better than ours, not to mention they have doubled us up at half time and have basically matched our entire regulation scoring output in just 1 half. Plus, it sounds like better defense and better in 1v1 matchups (getting to the free throw line) and making free throws.

Maybe, but we ran interference for UGA and wore them down in an OT game, sending them off on only 1 days rest. UGA shooting 10% from 3, 34% overall and barely out rebounding them, all much like us. Not talking about score. They made FT and we didn’t & gave up 17 pts while we gave up 18.

Mike White has an excellent defense in Athens. I went to their preseason game against State at the GSU Convocation Center and it is very similar to last year's team that suffocated us in McCamish. I don't know if they have enough scoring firepower to make a lot of noise in the SEC, but they are going to make every look at the basket tough. Not surprised they've got UMES shooting a very low %.

The FT thing is terribly concerning to me. That's basic stuff. Shooting 54% we won't beat anyone. Do they practice FT shooting?

Still having a hard time thinking about the opener. Trying to do an autopsy on it. Maybe easing the freshmen in slower alongside starters that should not include Kelly. How big a difference could that make with Ndongo & Washington starting based on the following?
Our starting lineup without Baye & Lamar outscored UMES starting lineup 42-12 with zero from Kelley. Their 7 man bench (4 seniors, 3 juniors) outscored our 6 man bench (5 freshmen, 1 sophomore) 40-14.
Sticking with an 8 man lineup for now would be my call. Washington, Ndongo, Sylla, Craft, Reeves, Mustaf, Marshall & Chatfield. You don’t see any more freshmen or Kelly unless it’s cleanup time. For now.

Mo will be a terrific player for us, but he was a turnover machine in the opener. He also was a liability at the free throw line. These 2 weaknesses reminded me of Ndongo his freshman year. Hopefully Mo can improve on these 2 items immediately.

Let's face it - ugag is just a much better team. Reminds me of North Florida last year, but the margin is worse this year. Washington and Ndongo will make a big difference though.

If you want the upside scenario for GT, we played the game with a PG focused offense while not having a real PG. If Washington is half the player we hope he is we win by 20. Throw in Ndongo and we win by 30.

If you run into Mustaf’s mom at a game, suggest you do not imply her son is not a real PG. she is usually there in a GT shirt with her son’s name & number, although I did not see her Monday night. I have it from an authority who knows her extremely well that she will respond telling you her son has ALWAYS been his team’s PG at every stage & level of his basketball career so far.
