All this means if selling out to shutting down our run requires man coverage on the back end, we cannot easily break it. If it means zone coverage, we can have more success since a zone typically takes extra personnel to run, limiting personnel committed to stopping the run.

So, if UGAg has DBs who can be successful in man coverage, it will be tough sledding. I believe they do.

They guys we tend to get wide freaking open are the TE’s and Rutherford/Stockton. Defenses are ALL over Singleton (but he is still catching his fair share) and the other WR struggles hard to get open it seems

Rutherford and Stockton, and to a lesser extent Lane, are very good at finding seams. The TEs, mostly Boyd, are running against LBs and DEs, and in Boyd’s case particularly, that ain’t fair. Those are the guys I expect to have good games Friday.

Singleton is a deep threat first and foremost. Philo can absolutely throw a ball he can run under. That’s just a matter of time. I will say this: Singleton has developed a little push off to get final separation. He hasn’t got called on it much, but I suspect SEC refs will be watching for it.

Philo has some limitations because he is a true freshman playing at a new level with limited experience at this level. Both are capable QBs. Both have very high upsides.

We should trust the coaches to make the decisions on who or what combination gives the team the best opportunity to win. I am certain that posters will be upset and blame the coaches for playing the wrong QB if we lose. There will probably be some who argue that we would have won by a larger margin with a different QB if we win. However, I don't believe there is one person on this forum who could make a better game plan than our coaches are going to implement, no matter if we win or lose. I don't believe there is one person on this forum who actually knows what King's injury status is, nor what Philo's limitations are. If there is someone on this forum that knows either of those things, the should not be posting it. We fans should be supportive of whoever takes the field Friday night win or lose.

Won't it be ACC refs? Unless they changed it, the norm has been to use the refs from the visiting team's conference.

So far Key is A+
1. Not being scattershot like TFP. This is by far the most important thing.
2. Being supportive of staff and then cutting the chord instead of trying to patch repeat problems.
3. Recruiting TOP linemen from Atl and Georgia ( see 25 class).
4. With limited nil budget he adjusted DT room via portal which lead to has our 23 run defense going from bottom 10% to top 10-20%
5. In offseason changed 23 offense from needing a Dontae to QB , who is very fast , run. Getting qb to give up long passing and pride himself on ZERO interceptions and sacks. ( Its cpj offense that passes).
6. Has staff and team DAILY pulling together- to win next game.
7. AS A GT GRAD AND PLAYER HE PRIOITIZES CONVINCING THE STUDENTS THAT GT FOOTBALL CAN GIVE THEM EXCELLENT MEMORIES OF THIER TIME AT GT ( WHICH IS WHAT ANGEL AND BATT BELIEVE). Key has taken time to have his thursday evening radio show at a frat house.

The above are all outputs of Key being genuine.


Not so good but ALL
FIXABLE.
1. In game adjustments. Syracuse gashing us w passes and minimal runs while in soft zone. Also showing our ol is not able to bully thier dl. Wait too long to open up offense and change defense = we almost caught up.
Louisville - after FG blocked for TD , in 2 munite offsnse with king passing we go 50 yds to 25 in 55 seconds. Then we ran ball 3 times. Clearly should have thrown into end zone 3 times and tried field goal. Louisville stuffed us.

VT waited till very end to let philo run a 2 minute scramble all passing offense. Thats his gift.
TOO COMMITED TO PRE PLAN.

Last year at the end of the game I was in the stands with the belief that if we recover the onside kick that we would tie the game. This year, I believe there is a decent chance to win the game. There is also a decent chance to lose the game, but the chance to win is much better this year than it has been since at least 2019.

Philo’s ability to run with authority that he showed at the end of the NCSU game is critical. It will force their D to respect both the run and the pass. Similarly, it is the QB draw can beat the zone blitz providing the OL picks up the blitz and the TE/RB runs the zone defender out of the play. In our O, the mobile QB really opens up options.
