Portal makes more sense than redshift, Key doesn't consider redshirts during the year, so this would have to be driven by Philo. Hopefully he told Key ahead of time so we weren't practicing with him all week

Sucks if this is true!!

Ugh, if true just another reason I hate the portal. The kid has some real potential here at tech .
Mods PLEASE change the title of this thread! There is nothing about him transferring or hitting the portal. The reports are that he is not planning on playing, which preserves his redshirt if true. This allows him to play longer AT TECH.

Key has mentioned before that he has been in discussions with the coaches, Philo, and his family and they will make the decision that they all feel is best.

Retitled. It was “Philo hitting the Portal?”.

I didn’t read the original forum post by Quinlan.
@CPJacket did you have any reason for your original title?

I think we’re all emotional right now. The gameplan is still to kick the ball at 7:30 and win but this news was an honest gutpunch this morning.

If King (QB1 all year, except injury) and Pyron (QB2 all year, except injury) are both healthy. Then it's non-news we wouldn't expect QB3 Philo to get snaps. Yeah, he's looked good at times. But he's a Tr. Fr. and was expected to redshirt until our top 2 both got hurt. Why would we throw him in the fire against a really good defense if our veterans are healthy? But also, no plan survives enemy contact and if Pyron and King aren't getting it done, then plans may change.

I'm betting big cash it isn't. No way that Key will leave a gun in the holster against Ugag. Philo plays. Whether or not that means we win is another question.
Left it in the holster vs VT. He should’ve played that game and we should’ve won it. Anyone with eyes knows Philo is better than Pyron and has the potential to be the best qb we’ve ever had.

If Key doesn't not play Philo to save a Redshirt then Key is acting the fool! If he does not play because he is hurt ok. Having a chance against Georgia is far more important than saving a Red Shirt year!

IMO, the only way this is true is if Philo and his family asked to preserve his redshirt. It might actually make sense for him to do it. First, we are about a 20 point underdog and probably have about a 10% chance of winning. Second, it greatly increases his future flexibility. If he lights it up at GT for a year or two, he might be in the Heisman running or be in line for big $s in the portal. We'll see.

What a sad state of affairs for college football if that is a valid reason!

If this is true, it is almost certainly a family decision and Key would be dumb to ignore it. Better lose him for this game than lose him forever.

However, if by the slightest chance it is actually Key’s decision and Philo wants to play…well then that’s pretty damn dumb.
